JAKARTA (17 July 2021) – To welcome National Children's Day 2021, the Social Rehabilitation Service Unit for Children with Disabilities (ULRS-APD) together with Social Rehabilitation Center Melati Jakarta held a Family Support activity for Children with Disabilities (DeKAP Disabilities) in the form of an online seminar (Webinar) on Friday (16/7/2021), with the theme "Unconditional Love - Family Acceptance of Children with Disabilities". ⠀

This activity is a family strengthening program for ULRS-APD Beneficiaries (PM). In the midst of the unfinished Covid-19 pandemic, DeKAP Disability activities were held virtually not only for PM ULRS-APD but also the general public can participate in the webinar directly through the Zoom Meeting application and watch live on the ULRS-APD YouTube channel. ⠀

 ⠀

The head of the Jakarta Melati Center, Romal Uli Jaya Sinaga, expressed his appreciation to the parents who were willing to attend and participate in the webinar organized by the Jakarta Melati Center and ULRS-APD. ⠀

"The Covid-19 pandemic is certainly hard for all of us. Persons with disabilities, especially children, are a vulnerable group whose basic rights are often neglected. Full support from families and communities is needed to maximize care and nurture so that there is no crisis in their growth and development, "said Romal

“The DeKAP Disability Webinar has an important point to provide support for families, especially parents who are mandated to educate special children. We strive to provide the best supporting system in efforts to respect, protect and fulfill the rights of persons with disabilities. We invite you to provide the best input in the programs we carry out so that in the future we can improve the Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) service for people with disabilities,” said Romal closing his remarks.

 ⠀

The DeKAP Disability webinar presented Sigit Yudhanarto, ULRS-APD child psychology assistant as a speaker who delivered material on family acceptance of children with disabilities. In his material, Sigit provides understanding for families to be able to accept children with disabilities with all their advantages and disadvantages.⠀

"Every child is gifted with their own specialties. Entrusted with the mandate to raise special children is certainly not an easy thing. One thing is certain, the sincerity to accept is a beautiful beginning to love them unconditionally," said Sigit.

“Family rejection is certainly very painful for children with disabilities, because they really need to be loved like other children. By loving them sincerely, we have built a strong bond, unraveling their grief and helping them build their beautiful dreams," continued Sigit.

Through this webinar, it is hoped that parents will be able to give unconditional love to their children, find solutions to problems by maximizing the role of all family members, so that the growth and development of children with disabilities can be maximized.

The DeKAP Disability webinar was attended by 80 participants, either through the zoom meeting application or on the ULRS-APD Youtube channel. As many as 42% of active participants consisted of parents of PM ULRS-APD, 33% general participants and 25% were specially invited participants. Later, the DeKAP Disability webinar will be held more regularly to maximize ATENSI services for families and children with disabilities.
