Director-General of Social Protection and Security Hopes that Social Assistance Help Community Meet Their Basic Needs

SURABAYA (16 April 2022) - Representing the Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, the Director-General of Social Protection and Security Pepen Nazaruddin was present to monitor the distribution of social assistance in South Surabaya, this morning (16/04).


The distribution of social assistance was symbolically carried out at the Rungkut District Office, attended by the Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi and the Special Advisor of the Minister for Relations and Partnerships of Foreign Institutions Faozan Amar.


In his remarks, Pepen stated that BLT for Cooking Oil is President Joko Widodo's policy to increase the purchasing power of the underprivileged in the midst of rising prices during Ramadan and ahead of Eid al-Fitr.


"We thank the President. We believe we can help you meet some of your basic needs until Eid using the assistance. According to the direction of the Minister, I ask that you can spend the assistance for essential needs, such as basic needs," said Pepen.

 

The Director-General also praised the responsive attitude of the Surabaya City Government in addressing the needs of the underprivileged community in the City of Heroes. "We give full appreciation to the ranks of the Surabaya City Government under the leadership of Mayor Eri Cahyadi," he said.


At the same event, Eri Cahyadi advised beneficiaries (KPM) not to rely solely on social assistance from the government. Eri asked them to change themselves, trying to increase their income independently.


“The city government has prepared various trainings to increase the independence of KPM. Don't just rely on social assistance. Come on ladies and gentlemen, Allah will not change a person's fate if he himself does not change it. Thank you to the Minister, the Director-General and the Ministry of Social Affairs," said Eri.


On the occasion, as many as 96 KPM from Rungkut District received three assistance at once consisting of the Family Hope Program (PKH), Non-Cash Food Assistance (BPNT), and Direct Cash Assistance (BLT) on Cooking Oil.


In addition, there were also 124 KPM from Tenggilis Mejoyo Sub-district which received assistance from PKH, while BPNT and BLT cooking oil had been distributed on previous occasions. Thus, there were 220 KPM who attended this morning.


Meanwhile, in South Surabaya, the BPNT and BLT Cooking Oil distributed by PT Pos Indonesia totalled 14,395 KPM with details in six sub-districts namely Gayungan as many as 640 KPM, Gunung Anyar as many as 927 KPM, Rungkut as many as 2,854 KPM, Tenggilis Mejoyo as many as 954 KPM, Wonocolo as many as 2,629 KPM, and Wonokromo as much as 6,391 KPM.

 

The distribution of social assistance by PT Pos Indonesia in South Surabaya begins on 12 April 2022, and today is the last schedule. For KPM who are unable to attend, a special counter will be opened and it is targeted to finish one week before the target for completion of distribution from the Ministry of Social Affairs.
