JAKARTA (November 25, 2020) - The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs represented by the Director General of Social Rehabilitation, Harry Hikmat, visited the residence of Monica Soraya, a public figure who is currently the foster parent of 13 foster children. The visit, which was accompanied by the Director of Child Social Rehabilitation, Kanya Eka Santi, aimed to directly confirm the process of implementing the alternative care program carried out by Monica and as a form of appreciation from the Ministry of Social Affairs to her. The alternative care program is one of the priority programs in the Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation, especially the Directorate of Child Social Rehabilitation.
During his visit, Harry said that what Monica had done was in line with existing policies and regulations regarding alternative care. “Mrs. Monica's efforts in caring for 13 children is an act that deserves appreciation. If we look out there, there are still a lot of parents who don't even take good care of their biological children, thus making the child neglected, while Ms. Monica does the opposite even though the child being cared for is not her biological child," said Harry.
The form of appreciation that will be carried out by the Ministry of Social Affairs, especially the Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation, is to help speed up the processing of identity documents for the 13 Monica's foster children. "We will cooperate with the Provincial Social Service and the Regency / City Social Office to assist the process of managing the identities of the 13 foster children and our plan is to make Mrs. Monica a Foster Parent National Ambassador," explained Harry.
Monica Soraya said that her husband's initial desire to raise the child was fully supported by her husband. Parenting for foster children began in March 2020 and so far Monica has taken care of 13 foster children. “The children we care for come from the majority of biological parents with poor economic conditions and they dared to contact me through social media. All of these foster children come from different families and regions,” said Monica.

To the Director General of Social Rehabilitation, Monica also conveyed that her desire to raise children is aimed at making the lives of each child she care for better in the future. Efforts are being made to achieve this by establishing a business for each of his foster children.
So far, she has made 4 business products for her 4 foster children and in the future new products will be launched for all of her foster children. “Each foster child will have sufficient savings to prepare them for the future through this business. In addition, I also embrace many parties such as artists and other public figures to be willing to take care of at least 1 foster child in their family as an effort to support the government's program in dealing with neglected children," added Monica.
“Mrs. Monica is not only nurturing but also has thoughts and actions that are out of the box, because she combines alternative parenting with foster children's empowerment which makes it different and more interesting than other parenting. Many childcare institutions have implemented a family-based care system, one of which is the SOS Children Village's Institution. The institution established a complex in which there are cottages where each cottage is filled by foster parents who care for children of various ages and characters, but so far they have only used alternative parenting patterns without empowerment. Monica's mother's efforts open up new ideas in terms of childcare," said Harry.
During the visit, Harry and the Team of the Directorate of Child Social Rehabilitation had the opportunity to see firsthand the condition of Monica's 13 foster children. Harry had time to chat with several foster children and chat with the 13 nannies and take photos together. At the end, Harry expressed his gratitude, support and motivation to Monica for being willing to support the Foster Care Program by taking care of 13 foster children in the family.
