BANDUNG (December 14, 2020) - The Director General of Social Rehabilitation of the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, Harry Hikmat, appreciates the existence of "Saung Kreasi This Ability" which was initiated by the Kumala Foundation.
Saung This Ability is a forum for empowering Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with Disabilities managed by the Hasna Mandiri Group under the auspices of the Kumala Foundation in synergy with Pertamina Hulu Energy Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ).
"Today, the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, in this case the Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation, has accepted the invitation to launch the "This Ability" program and the inauguration of Saung Kreasi as a forum for friends with disabilities. We really appreciate the good cooperation between the Kumala Foundation, Pertamina Hulu Energy Offshore Nort West Java (ONWJ) and the local government," said Harry after inaugurating Saung Kreasi This Ability in Nyalindung Village RT 6 RW 11 Cileunyi Wetan Village, Bandung Regency, Monday (14/12).
According to Harry, Saung Kreasi This Ability is a good example in efforts to empower people with disabilities to hone their abilities and improve their skills and creativity.
With this activity, said Harry, people with disabilities can contribute benefits to the wider community.
"So what is being done at Saung Kreasi is recycling used paper waste, banana leaf midrib into something new. Earlier, we saw that the products were very good, even not inferior to non-disabled creations," he explained.
This, said Harry, shows that people with disabilities are able to make something useful and even support their future.
He added that although the locus or location of this activity was in Cileunyi, the Hasna Mandiri group was able to develop a network by forming similar communities in Kuningan and Cirebon.

"Incidentally there are trainers who have received training to recycle used waste and then pass their skills on to other members of the disability community. Earlier they also brought creations from recycled products such as handicrafts, very good goody bags," he concluded.
In his remarks, Harry also revealed that the Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation has launched the ATENSI (Social Rehabilitation Assistance) program which has a platform for carrying out family, community, and residential-based social rehabilitation.
He added that the Ministry of Social Affairs as the leading sector in handling persons with disabilities has rolled out a disability empowerment policy that focuses on the active participation of families and communities.
"In the past, residential rehabilitation was a classic tradition of the Ministry of Social Affairs based on a Center. Beneficiaries were brought to the Center to live in the Center. Currently the Ministry of Social Affairs is also developing a family and community approach. And this is what the Kumala Foundation has done," he said.
The founder of the Kumala Foundation, Dindin Komarudin, revealed that the forerunner to the establishment of Saung Kreasi This Ability began when his party synergized with the Bogor "Cibinong" Balai Besar in 2018.
The Hasna Mandiri group, said Dindin, did provide assistance to people with disabilities in the form of training on paper recycling and handicrafts.
"The Kumala Foundation at that time needed a production partner, because the abilities and potential of friends with disabilities were very large in creating creations. We were also enthusiastic about assisting. Thank God we also received support from Pertamina Hulu Energy ONWJ," he said.
Dindin is proud that he has succeeded in expanding the network to Kuningan, Cirebon and even Sukabumi.
In the future, Dindin added, all of these groups will not only be fostered but also work partners.
"Not the object but as the subject of the perpetrator. Let's together change the stigma of society that is already attached to creativity. Together we are empowered," he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Bandung Regency Social Service, Nina Setiana, also expressed her appreciation for the activities initiated by the Kumala Foundation.
Moreover, said Nina, the social rehabilitation program is limited, because there are not many foundations that concentrate specifically on handling people with disabilities.
"We support what we can afford, in fact we will make the Kumala Foundation a model for handling disability in other areas, especially in Bandung Regency. At least one sub-district is one group, then this disability handling must be completed," he said.
On this occasion, the Director General of Social Rehabilitation of Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, Harry Hikmat, also received souvenirs in the form of handicrafts.
Present on the occasion were the Head of the Bogor "Cibinong" Center, the Head of the Cimahi "Abiyoso" Literacy Center, the Head of the Bandung "Wyata Guna" Center and the Head of the Sub-Directorate of Intellectual Disabilities.
