BEKASI (April 1, 2021) - The "Budhi Dharma" Elderly Center in Bekasi owned by the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs which provides services for the elderly continues to develop innovations in the quality of Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) services.

The Head of the "Budhi Dharma" Elderly Center in Bekasi, Pujiyanto, encourages the development of ecoprint creations so that beneficiaries (PM) can follow current trends even though they are elderly. By using materials found in the natural environment such as leaves around the Center.
Today, (1/4) a vocational therapy activity was held at the “Budhi Dharma” Elderly Center in Bekasi, introducing the basic ecoprint for elderly beneficiaries who are on average over 60 years old provided by the Vocational Therapy Instructor, Erika. The basic introduction to ecoprint starts with what an ecoprint is and the steps for making an ecoprint, as well as the practice of using fabric.
“Ecoprint is a coloring technique from nature, we use materials found in nature, such as leaves, twigs, flowers or twigs that can produce color. And in this meeting, we will learn the basics first,” said Erika.
Simple steps for ecoprinting are given by the instructor, starting with fabric preparation, selecting leaves/twigs as patterns and simple basic techniques by hitting/tapping the pattern on the fabric with stones to produce mirroring. After that, the color locking technique is done by vixation (a solventwith tunjung, alum or vinegar) so that the natural colors come out.
The process of introducing the basics of ecoprint and teaching the elderly to make ecoprints on cloth is aimed to maintain the cognitive function of the elderly brain so that it continues to function properly and maintain their productivity.

When choosing print media for both leaves, flowers and twigs, there is a memory process, namely reviving PM's past memories of objects or things that have been used or encountered.
Sunitah, one of the PM, shared her experience when she was young with the natural dyeing process. "I am happy to participate in this activity, I remember when I played and wanted to color my nails using the tip of a teak leaf stalk which was rubbed into our nails and being colored, the same as making this (ecoprint), we tap and tap with a stone then, the color will come out, " said Sunitah. Based on this narrative, it can be seen that this activity has evoked past memories.
The simple basic technique of coloring to produce leaf patterns by tapping the cloth using a stone requires high concentration and patience so that psychologically, the process will generate pleasure and overcome the problems that the elderly experience. This method can maintain the PM's cognitive system and hone soft skills to learn patience, thoroughness, creativity and perseverance.
The beneficiary, who is usually called Madam, said that learning ecoprint could divert the sadness that had been experienced so far. "Madam can forget sadness by tapping the stone on this cloth, Madam can smile today," said Madam.
It is hoped that the PMs who follow the basic introduction of ecoprint, according to their respective physical condition. will later produce products that have economic value and are able to support productivity in the elderly while maintaining their cognitive function of the brain and social function.
