SURABAYA (17 April 2022) - Apart from social assistance, the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) is also accelerating poverty handling with various empowerment programs. In line with the direction of the Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, beneficiaries (KPM) under 40 years of age will be the target of the empowerment program.

In front of the people of Surabaya, the Director-General of Social Protection and Security, Pepen Nazaruddin, again emphasized the Minister's directive. "So the KPM under 40 years old will be transferred to empowerment programs. Why? Because we think they are still strong and capable," said Pepen while witnessing the disbursement of social assistance in Kenjeran District.

In addition, the transfer to empowerment programs is also carried out with consideration to create justice. "There are still many other underprivileged people who have not received assistance. So that there is equal opportunity for those who have never received assistance," said Pepen.

MoSA has prepared the Social Entrepreneurship Program (ProKUS) with the target of Family Hope Program (PKH) graduates who have business startups.

The program is expected to be a bridge for those who have business startups so that they can develop more. ProKUS beneficiaries will not only get business capital assistance but also mentoring.

"They will be connected with capital institutions such as cooperatives," said Pepen. This is the way MoSA exists and makes underprivileged communities more economically independent.

ProKUS is expected to be able to improve the living standards of KPM in a sustainable manner by providing reinforcement to their start-up businesses.

For example, in the home industry, services, culinary, handicrafts, creative industries, agricultural cultivation and agro-tourism.

Today, the assistance distribution was carried out in Kenjeran District. The Director-General of Social Protection and Security, Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi and his staff were present on the occasion.

On the same occasion, the Special Advisor to the Minister for International Affairs and Partnerships, Faozan Amar, stated that the distribution of assistance went smoothly.

In line with the statement from the Director-General, Faozan stated that the social empowerment program is a MoSA’s effort to provide appropriate treatment for every condition of KPM.

"In addition, the distribution of social assistance in the midst of an upward trend in prices and ahead of Eid al-Fitr is proof that the state is present. With this assistance, it is hoped that this will reduce the expenditure of the poor," he said.

Mayor Eri Cahyadi advised KPM not to rely solely on social assistance from the government. Eri asked them to change themselves, trying to increase their income independently.

“Pemkot sudah menyiapkan berbagai pelatihan untuk meningkatkan kemandirian KPM. Jangan hanya mengandalkan bansos. Terima kasih kepada Ibu Menteri, Pak Dirjen dan jajaran Kemensos,” kata Eri.

“The government has prepared various pieces of training to increase the independence of KPM. Don't just rely on social assistance. Thank you to the Minister, the Director-General and MoSA," said Eri.

The social assistance distributed in Surabaya consists of the Family Hope Program (PKH), Non-Cash Food Assistance (BPNT), and Direct Cash Assistance (BLT) for Cooking Oil. Social assistance was distributed to five sub-districts, namely Kenjeran with 220 KPM, Rungkut with 96 KPM, Semampir with 220 KPM, Simokerto with 220 KPM and Tenggilis Mejoyo with 124 KPM.
