JAKARTA (July 9, 2021) - Social Minister Tri Rismaharini invites all parties to save the nation's generation from the dangers of abuse of Narcotics and Other Addictive Substances (Drugs). Saving the younger generation is not only the duty of the government but also all elements of the nation.

Mrs. Risma also reminded us that currently, as many as 3.6 million people are victims of drug abuse. In a study by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), the number of drug abuse shows no signs of slowing down in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic, in the last year.

In line with the direction of the Minister of Social Affairs, MoSA social counselors can play an important role in educating the public about the dangers of drugs. The Head of the Educational Research and Social Counseling Agency (BP3S) of MoSA, Prof. Syahabuddin stated that social counselors have an important role in handling drugs in Indonesia.

“Social Counselors are the spearhead in delivering information to the public regarding the dangers of drug abuse. Social counselors must be more intensive in providing education and disseminating information, providing responsive services and assistance to the community," said Syahabuddin in his remarks at the Virtual One Day Training (VODT) with the theme "Beware of Drug Abuse amid the COVID19 Pandemic", today.

Based on BNN data, there was a significant increase in the amount of drug evidence confiscated. In 2021 in just 3 months, BNN has confiscated 808.67 kilograms of methamphetamine and 3,462.75 kilograms of marijuana.

This alarming incident came to the attention of MoSA which then held VODT which was held by the MoSA through the Social Counseling Center.

The virtual training which was held for 2 days starting from Thursday (8/7/2021) to Friday (9/7/2021) presented 3 resource persons namely Brigadier General Pol Drs. Iman Sumantri (Director of Information and Education at BNN) Vera Itabiliana (child and adolescent psychologist at LPT UI) and Dr. Lula Kamal (doctor and artist) as a resource person on the 2nd day.

This Virtual One Day Training activity was attended by 250 participants consisting of Social Counselors, Community Social Instructors, and MoSA Employees.

On the same occasion, Syahabuddin also emphasized how drug abuse can damage the true character of the Indonesian nation.

“Drugs are a disease that must be removed from Indonesia. A disease that kills the character of the Indonesian people. Killing the potential of our youth to become future leaders," said Syahabuddin.

In handling victims of drug abuse, MoSA sees the importance of building a family-based social media strategy. The survey shows the family can be an instrument, in social rehabilitation and prevention efforts. To emerge resilience from the community members themselves.

MoSA organizes a Social Rehabilitation program for Victims of Drug Abuse (KPN) so that KPN can carry out its social functions, including the ability to carry out roles, fulfill needs, solve problems and self-actualization, and create a social environment that supports the success of KP Drug Rehabilitation.

One method of social assistance for KPN is Therapeutic Community (TC). Namely the social media method aimed at victims of drug abusers who are a "family". Consists of people who have the same problems and goals.

That is to help oneself and others who are led by someone from them. Thus, there is a change in behavior from negative to positive.
