NORTH MALUKU (January 20, 2021) - Kendari "Minaula" Elderly Center as Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs in the Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation carry out Emergency Response and Delivery of Social Assistance for Elderly Social Rehabilitation (ATENSI LU) for the elderly affected by floods in North Halmahera Regency and West Halmahera.

The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs through the "Minaula" Elderly Center in Kendari, sent an Emergency Response Team to help the elderly affected by the flood disaster. The team was led directly by the Head of the "Minaula" Elderly Center in Kendari and supported by Social Counselors and Nurses. The team was dispatched to establish the Elderly Shelter. The team carried out psychosocial support, health checks, education on protocols for preventing COVID-19 transmission, distribution of masks and vitamins, and the delivery of Community LU ATENSI Aid to the elderly affected by the disaster, both the elderly who came to the shelter or the team that visited the elderly who were scattered in various evacuee camps. The evacuee camps were spread out at several points, including in Duma Village, West Galela District, North Halmahera Regency and Sessionoli Village, South Jailolo District, West Halmahera Regency, which were the areas most severely affected by flooding.

"The elderly are one of several vulnerable groups during a disaster. Therefore, they are the main priority who must be given assistance," said Syamsuddin as Head of the Kendari "Minaula" Elderly Center.

He also added, "We are Social Rehabilitation UPT for the Elderly with regional coverage in eight provinces, one of which is in North Maluku Province. The team was dispatched to provide psychosocial support services and health checks for the affected elderly and we hope this support can strengthen and restore spirit of the elderly," he concluded.

In addition, the team with the North Maluku Province Elderly Social Rehabilitation Assistant along with LKSLU Dina Santo Yoseph (Pusaka 10 North Maluku) and LKSLU Rako Moi (Pusaka 1 North Maluku) conducted data collection and needs assessments, as well as distributed basic assistance to the elderly affected by the flood disaster in North Maluku. the two districts.

Kresensia as the Head of LKSLU Dina Santo Yoseph (Pusaka 10 North Maluku) said, “We are very grateful to the Emergency Response Team for the "Minaula" Elderly Center in Kendari for being willing to come to provide LU ATENSI assistance in Duma Village, West Galela District, North Halmahera Regency. This assistance is very helpful in meeting the needs, especially the elderly who are affected by the flood disaster," he said.

"F", one of the elderly evacuees in Duma Village when met at the location said, "The water came down from above so I was carried by the current for several tens of meters, fortunately there was a board so I could hold on to the board and I had given up at that time," he said.
