BEKASI (January 26, 2021) - The Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini, brought a team from the Surabaya Hotel School to provide cooking training. This training is a provision to open a production and culinary center for scavengers who currently live at Pangudi Luhur Training Center Bekasi.

The training, which was held for 6 days, started from January 26 to 31, 2021 at the Pangudi Luhur Training Center Multipurpose Building, Bekasi. The participants were trained by 9 instructors from Surabaya Hotel School.

The cooking training was attended by 30 participants consisting of 9 beneficiaries, 9 assistant instructors from Pangudi Luhur Training Center Bekasi, 8 Dharma Wanita and Government Employees Non Civil Servants wives, 2 beneficiaries and 2 assistants from Mulya Jaya Training Center Jakarta.

"This activity aims to motivate Beneficiaries to be smart or smart in processing food properly and correctly, so that later they will have sufficient provisions and knowledge to make culinary businesses independently," said the Minister of Social Affairs while attending the training activities directly.

Cooking training which is in line with the opening of a production and culinary center at Pangudi Luhur Training Center Bekasi is a form of social rehabilitation and social empowerment services.

The production and culinary centers to be built consist of 3 types, namely restaurants, food courts and cafes. This culinary center will be a place to eat for both Ministry of Social employees and the general public.

The Ministry of Social Affairs wants to create abandoned residents who can be independent, change their way of thinking, and change their behavior through the Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) which was developed at the Center. This is a comprehensive concept of handling displaced people, helping to complete so that displaced people can live decently and independently.

Head of Pangudi Luhur Training Center Bekasi, Kokom Komalawati said that the cooking training was carried out in collaboration with Pangudi Luhur with the Surabaya Hotel School.

This activity aims to make Beneficiaries and Advisors at Pangudi Luhur Training Center Bekasi and Mulya Jaya Training Center Jakarta smart in cooking for both the upper and lower classes. "The knowledge that has been obtained can be put into practice in daily life and at the same time can increase economic income," said Kokom when giving his speech.

On the same occasion, the Executive Director of Surabaya Hotel School, Bagus Supomo said that this training activity would be carried out in the next few days with several stages. “The most important thing is that the participants must understand the material given, and no less important is how to maintain cleanliness. So that when the food is served it is kept clean. It is also mandatory to use gloves,” said Bagus.

Together with the Surabaya Hotel School Team, Bagus Supomo also said that this cooking training was to improve the quality development of the beneficiaries' abilities. “We will share knowledge on how to process food properly and correctly. Hopefully, this knowledge can be used in the future to earn additional income," he said.

During his visit, the Minister of Social Affairs also saw the readiness of Pangudi Luhur Training Center Bekasi related to the Entrepreneurship Development Program for Scavengers. Some of the places visited include waste management sites, hydroponics, laying hens farms and the front area of ​​the Pangudi Luhur Training Center Bekasi which will become a culinary center. "All programs have been going well, slowly," said Risma.
