Of the 15 scavengers, 5 of them, namely Riyadi, Agus Suprijadi, Agus Hardian, Pertinatus Aunsi and Andri Gunawan Prasetyo, were assisted by "Pangudi Luhur" Training Center in Bekasi and 10 others, namely Sogiandi, Hendra Kuswara, Dedi Mulyadi, Didi Kanadi, Abdullah, Achmad Faisal, Nurcholis, Zul Arsyil Mazid, Maimunah, and Muslimin are assisted by LKS ERBE who are also partners with the Ministry of Social Affairs.
"On behalf of the government and the Ministry of Social Affairs, I would like to thank PT. Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk for providing opportunities for our brothers and sisters. I am sure they will get a better income," said Risma when delivering her speech at the PT. Waskita Karya Becakayu Project Location, Bekasi.
Their income when they were scavengers was an average of Rp30.000. That's why they also find it difficult to access housing and choose to be under a bridge or just sleep on the sidewalk.
Currently they are staying temporarily at the "Pangudi Luhur" Training Center in Bekasi. "The Ministry of Social Affairs provides a hall for their temporary residence before they become independent. We will prepare not only Centers in Bekasi and Jakarta, but also Centers throughout Indonesia," explained Risma.
Later, continued Risma, once the scavengers are independent, they will be placed in rental flats (Rusunawa) which are currently under construction in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR).
President Director of PT. Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk, Destiawan Soewardjono welcomed the Ministry of Social Affairs' idea. "In essence, there are many jobs in the PT. Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk project that everyone can do without the need for special skills. Moreover, they have received training at the Pangudi Luhur Bekasi Training Center and LKS," he explained.
Destiawan will adjust their work placement according to their work experience and expertise, so that they can easily adapt to work in the field.
When the project is completed, the project team will evaluate the workers. If the worker is diligent and the work is good, the project team will invite the worker to do the next project.
