JAKARTA (October 6th, 2019) - Director General of Social Rehabilitation of the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, Edi Suharto, represented the Minister of Social Affairs as the Main Speaker at the Launch, Seminar and Talk Show organized by the Active Elderly Care for Indonesia (Lantip Indonesia) at the Tribrata Building in South Jakarta.

Edi Suharto said that according to result data from the National Social and Economic Survey (Susenas) in 2018 currently the elderly population in Indonesia reached 24.49 million people. The number is predicted to continue to increase in the following year, so it is necessary to take anticipate steps so that the elderly in Indonesia in the future become more healthy and productive in national development.

To realize policies that support the elderly to remain productive, independent, prosperous and dignified, Edi Suharto gave several directions. First, the Central and Regional Governments must give strength families who have elderly people in their homes. Second, the Central and Regional Governments must encourage and provide the widest possible opportunity for the community to participate in supporting the elderly, both work opportunities and providing public spaces to express themselves.

Third, the benefits of digital cameras to provide the best service for the elderly, so that the elderly can take advantage of the country's online services, independently. Fourth, the Central and Regional Governments must ensure ease of use of public facilities, including elderly-friendly health centers, office building facilities, shopping centers, markets, bus terminals, train stations, and city parks that need to be reorganized with due regard to the special needs and limitations of the elderly.

"Therefore, the elderly need support from their families and the surrounding community. Friendly environment must be created for the elderly so that they are comfortable living their lives," concluded Edi Suharto.

Lantip held a seminar and talk show with the theme "The Role of the Elderly in Indonesian Development" on October 6, 2019 at the Tribrata Building, Jakarta. On this occasion, the launching of the Lantip association that was established on March 22, 2018 by Taufiequrachman Ruki, Chair of the Elderly Active Care for Indonesia (Lantip Indonesia). Several speakers at the event were more than 80 years old, namely Soebroto (Professor of FE UI), Moeryati Soedibyo (Member of the SOKSI Advisory Board), Jacob Utama (Kompas Founder), and Titiek Puspa (Indonesian Art Figure).

Lantip held a seminar and talk show with the theme "The Role of the Elderly in Indonesian Development" on October 6, 2019 at the Tribrata Building, Jakarta. On this occasion, the launching of the Lantip association was established on March 22, 2018 by Taufiequrachman Ruki, Chair of the Elderly Active Care for Indonesia (Lantip Indonesia). Some speakers who attended this event were over 80 years old, there were Soebroto (Professor of Economy Faculty UI), Moeryati Soedibyo (Member of SOKSI Advisory Board), Jacob Utama (Kompas Founder), and Titiek Puspa (Indonesian Art Figure).
