BANDUNG (October 31, 2020) - Director General of Social Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Harry Hikmat attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between UKM Creative Business Of Difable Community (CIDCO) and Artherapy Center Widyatama Bandung with the Chinese Care Community Foundation and PT Lintas Sinergi Jabarindo as users/industry in the creative industry work program, at the Widyatama Artherapy Center, Jl PHH Mustofa, Bandung City, Saturday (31/10/2020).
The Director General of Social Rehabilitation is very positive about the signing of this MoU because it can open up job opportunities for people with disabilities, especially in the creative industry.
"At the same time, I want to know more about what CIDCO and the Artherapy Center are doing, because this is relatively rare, providing education at the level of Diploma 3 for people with disabilities and using an art therapy approach, which mainly stimulates their creativity," said Harry. .
The Ministry of Social Affairs is very supportive of further development efforts, even more constructive cooperation, especially in capacity building and institutionalization of the Center for Social Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities within the Ministry of Social Affairs.
“Entering at the Artherapy Center, later they will get a certificate of competence, and this raises their class. So, the negative stigma against people with disabilities will be eroded little by little, they will be able to compete in the industrial world," said Harry.
Harry said that graphic design, crafts, and music could provide a decent life for people with disabilities, provided the products produced were of high quality and liked by the market.
Consumers really like the products produced by people with disabilities. In fact, the design of a well-known coffee shop is the work of a person with a disability.
“I am very enthusiastic, because this can raise respect for the condition of people who have different abilities. Therefore, I emphasize to the Social Rehabilitation Centers to make art therapy a curriculum, so that there are more advanced prospects in the future. Because there will be an increase in level, not just skilled but expert," explained Harry.

Artherapy Center Advisor Widyatama and Chair of the CIDCO Advisory Board, Anne Nurfarina explained, art therapy is an opportunity, because it has high flexibility that carries the natural abilities of a person with a disability.
“Our example is autistic, because they have barriers to communication. We use the method of building a communication response so that interaction occurs, then we provide knowledge to change the stigma that intelligence is not only good at math,“ explained Anne.
Anne did not deny that when this concept was introduced to the public, Artherapy was considered to be exploiting persons with disabilities. In fact, she emphasized, the concept offered by Artherapy could make persons with disabilities financially independent. Moreover, Artherapy also teaches a simple and easy-to-understand financial management system.
“This is a concept that must be realized immediately, but mainly it must be accepted by the industry. Hopefully it will become a sustainable program, and collaborate with all other stakeholders,” said Anne.
Meanwhile, Sri Juniati, Chairperson of the Widyatama Foundation Trustees, admitted that today's signing is a moment that has been awaited for a long time, namely the government's involvement in this case the Ministry of Social Affairs. The reason is that handling social problems cannot be done alone, both parents, communities, and academics, but requires strong support from policy makers.
“The presence of the Director General of Social Rehabilitation at the Ministry of Social Affairs emphasizes not only physical presence, but sustainability for now and in the future. We hope that these people with disabilities can be more independent, and become inspirations for the wider community,” she said.
