Ministry of Social Affairs Distributes Basic Needs of Persons with Disabilities Flood Victims in East Sumba
KAMBERA (15 April 2021) - The Ministry of Social
Affairs through the Cimahi “Abiyoso” Braille Literacy Center provides
Psychosocial Support Services (LDP) and Basic Needs Fulfillment Assistance for
Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) program for persons with disabilities
affected by flooding due to the Seroja cyclone in Kambera District, East Sumba
Regency Province of East Nusa Tenggara.
Persons with disabilities
and flood survivors' families are the main targets of Psychosocial Support
Services and provision of basic needs. A total of 50 packages of assistance to
fulfill basic needs from the Cimahi “Abiyoso” Braille Literacy Center, 30 aid
packages from the Banjarbaru “Budi Luhur” Disability Center and 40 packages of
assistance from the Makassar “Wirajaya” Disability Center along with 15 school
equipment packages were distributed to persons with disabilities affected by
the disaster.
LDP activities and
distribution of assistance from various Social Rehabilitation Centers of the
Ministry of Social Affairs were accompanied by the Head of the Children and
Elderly Section of the East Sumba Regency Social Service, Theodorus Luan and
the East Sumba Regency Social Worker Service Unit, Mikel Presty Carlo Moata.
The joy of persons with
disabilities, especially children, and their families was clearly reflected
after receiving Psychosocial Support Services and assistance with basic needs
from the Ministry of Social Affairs LDP Team.
Head of the “Abiyoso” Braille
Literacy Center, Isep Sepriyan, conveyed that this assistance was an effort and the concern of the Ministry of Social Affairs through Social Rehabilitation Centers
to quickly and accurately cope with disasters for survivors, especially persons
with disabilities. Meanwhile, the Head of the Social Service for East Sumba
Regency, Oktavianus Tamu Ama, welcomed the team from the Ministry of Social
Affairs.
"We are very happy
and feel helpful by the presence of the team from the Ministry of Social
Affairs. We also really did not expect that we would get a lot of assistance
like this because we really need it," said Oktavianus.
