KARAWANG (February 23, 2021) - The overflow of water from the Citarum and Cibeet rivers has again resulted in flooding at a number of points in Karawang Regency. Floods that occurred on Friday (19/2) have inundated 15 sub-districts in the central and northern regions of Karawang.
Following the direction of the Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini, the Ciungwanara Disability Center immediately deployed Outreach Team (TRC) consisting of social workers, occupational therapists and nurses to provide Social Rehabilitation Assistance Assistance (ATENSI) to disaster-affected locations.
TRC initially coordinated with the Social Office of Karawang Regency through the Head of Office and Head of Social Security Section. The Head of Office, Abdul Aziz, said that Karawang was a flood prone area due to overflowing water from Bogor and Bandung.
"This is the second flood that hit Karawang in 2021. After residents finished cleaning their houses after the first flood, it turned out that a second, larger flood was received. My house was also affected by the flood which caused me to flee to my children's house. The name of the residents of Karawang thank you very much for the assistance from the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, in this case the Ciungwanara Disability Center. Ciungwanara has always been at the forefront of helping us deal with this disaster," explained Abdul.
Next, the team conducted an assessment of the location of the flood with the Head of Social Security, Asep, to determine which areas would be the target for the delivery of Attention Assistance.
"We suggest that the allocation of attention assistance can be given to the Panti Darma Sosial Mental Rehabilitation and Grahita in Sinar Jaya village which has been isolated since last Friday," explained Asep.
The team then went straight to the location of the Panti Darma Sosial which was led by Engkong Herman. The access road to the orphanage is difficult because it is blocked by floodwaters, causing the location to be unreachable for assistance from the government. The team then immediately handed over the ATENSI support consisting of 50 packages of fast food, blankets, baby equipment and toiletries to the assisted residents and the community around the orphanage.
The owner of the Social Institution said that when the flood occurred, the entire orphanage was flooded and road access was cut off for several days, he was very grateful for the Attention Assistance provided by the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs. "I am very grateful for the assistance from the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs for the Panti Darma Sosial. We are really in a state of complete deprivation plus the flood disaster that has submerged the orphanage twice. And the assistance from the Government in this case the Ministry of Social Affairs is very useful to alleviate our difficulties," said Engkong Herman.
In addition to providing Attention Assistance, the team also provided Psychosocial Support Services (LDP) in the form of strengthening motivation and stress management, health checks in the form of checking blood pressure, and case management for the inmates at the orphanage.
