Ministry of Social Affairs Presents Basic Food Assistance in West Bandung

WEST BANDUNG (June 15, 2020) - The COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia has not only had an impact on public health, but has also paralyzed the economy. This is not only felt by the business sector, but also felt by the community. Factories that are closed, schools that are not yet active, as well as declining orders for daily convection, limited services for online motorcycle taxis, automatically have an impact on the individual economy. This is experienced by residents in Tanimulya Village, Ngamprah District, West Bandung Regency. Seeing this condition, the Director General of Social Empowerment, Edi Suharto, was immediately moved to visit the location and provide assistance.
"As we can see, it turns out that the impact of this corona is a chain. So the Ministry of Social Affairs is trying, in addition to expanding PKH and BPNT, we also expand our reach. One of them is by distributing social assistance assistance. The Ministry of Social Affairs is here for people affected by COVID-19 who have never received any assistance at all "Edi explained in an interview.
A total of 2000 packages of Social Assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs were given to residents affected by COVID-19 in two locations, namely Tanimulya Village and Employeegi Village, each of which 1000 packages were distributed. The social assistance contains rice, cooking oil, instant noodles, and canned fish.
"The purpose of the Social Assistance Ministry Present is so that assistance can reach all levels of affected communities, without exception. Where the criteria are that these residents are outside DTKS, have never received PKH and BPNT assistance. Where data collection is similar to DTKS, namely bottom up, comes from below. The village head can show name, NIK and domicile address, then we verify and then provide assistance to them," continued Edi.
Based on the results of data collection from local RT, RW and District Social Welfare Worker, the economies of residents in Tanimulya Village and Karyawangi Village have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. They have never received assistance, either from the central government or from the regions. The residents' daily jobs are factory workers, day laborers, workshop businesses, online motorcycle taxis, day traders, and household assistants.

This assistance is very useful for those who are directly affected by losing their jobs. Hopefully this can be sufficient for the economy them," explained Uus.
Almost 4 months of inactive school and using the Distance Learning (PJJ) method, making Dayat (70) has no daily income. Dayat used to sell food everyday in one of the schools in Tanimulya Village. So that when the assistance was given, Dayat was touched and grateful that the Ministry of Social Affairs was still paying attention to his family.
"Abah (Dayat)'s daily job is trading at the school. Now it has been a long time since I have traded, it has been 4 months without income and is unemployed. Every day I eat the things that I can eat, Abah (Dayat) really feels the joy of getting this basic food assistance," said Dayat.
Yayan also feels the same way as a daily convection worker. During these 4 months, no orders came in and no revenue. So that the Ministry of Social Affairs' basic food assistance is very helpful to meet daily basic needs.
"Hopefully this assistance will help me and my family a lot, hopefully it will be a blessing, Thank you Ministry of Social Affairs," said Yayan.
Exploring a narrow alley and entering the village, Edi Suharto and Mrs. Oom Komariah Suharto met and provided assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs for Mrs. Euis (70) who had suffered a stroke since 8 months ago and no longer has a husband. At an older age, she can only speak a little when other people talk to him and can only move around in a wheelchair every day. Euis and her family are very grateful for the basic food assistance.
"Thank you for the help, hopefully it will be useful for the family," said the family of Mrs. Euis.
Also accompanying the Director General of Social Empowerment at the event were the Director of Remote Indigenous Community Empowerment, the Director of Heroism, Pioneering, Solidarity and Social Restoration, Technical Personnel of the PSPKKM Directorate, Head of OHH, Head of Sub-Directorate of TMPNU, MPN and TMPN, Directorate General of Social Affairs.
