BANDUNG (October 23, 2020) - The Ministry of Social Affairs continues to pay attention to various sectors affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The wheels of the economy are getting heavier day by day for some of the people involved in it. One of them is in the tourism and hospitality sector. This time the social assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs was distributed through the Bandung Tourism College Alumni Association (IKA STP), for hotel employees affected by COVID-19.

Symbolically, the social assistance was handed over by Dharma Wanita Persatuan Advisory of the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs who is also a member of the OASE for the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet, Grace Batubara, to 6 hotel employee representatives.

"We handed over 1,078 packages of basic food assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs through the Bandung Tourism College Alumni Association (IKA STP) for hotel employees affected by COVID-19 in Bandung," said Grace accompanied by the General Chairperson of IKA STP Bandung, Tonie Kadi at The Jayakarta Suites Hotel, Bandung.

Currently, the world of tourism and hospitality is affected by COVID-19, so employees need basic food assistance to ease the burden of their family's daily needs.

"This social assistance is not a solution, but I hope it can fulfill some of your basic needs," added Grace Batubara.

Over the past 6 months, the impact of COVID-19 on revenue in the hospitality sector has been felt. The existence of restrictions and the closure of tourist attractions, has an impact on the decline in the number of hotel guests.

The General Manager of Hotel Jayakarta Bandung, Albert Jonas, explained that the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was really felt.

"The effect of this pandemic is that there are several hotels whose salaries have been cut by 50%. Hopefully this social assistance is a form of concern for employees. Recovery to be able to rise. In this COVID-19 situation, we must be more vigilant, give new hope, and hope that economic conditions will recover again. We are grateful and thankful for this social assistance to restore our spirit that we are not alone," explained Jonas.

Head of IKA STP Toni Kadi also expressed his hope that this assistance could reduce the burden of 1,078 affected employees from 35 hotels in Bandung.

As we know that many hotels, especially in the city of Bandung, experienced a significant decrease in income so they had to cut salaries and even issue layoff letters for their employees.

An employee at the Papandayan Hotel, Alfin, who is also one of the recipients of social assistance, told of his difficult condition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"For me, the impact of COVID-19 is quite significant. It was only last September that things started to get a little normal. Therefore, we really need this social assistance. Hopefully this help is not given once. Thank you very much for this help,” explained Alfin.

The event was also attended by members of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan of the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, Head of "Wyata Guna" Social Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Visual Disabilities (BRSPDSN), Head of "Abiyoso" Indonesian Braille Literacy Center (BLBI), GM Hotel Jayakarta Bandung, Head of Social Protection and Empowerment Division of the Bandung City Social and Poverty Reduction Service, and Head of the Tourism Destinations Section of the City Culture and Tourism Office.
