JAKARTA (18 April 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs together with the Heroes of the Economy are back to discuss thoroughly one of the unique phenomena in the fasting month of Ramadan, namely the Ramadan Snack Business Opportunity. This webinar was opened directly by the Special Advisor to the Minister of Social Affairs Luhur Budijarso as the Economic Hero Steering Committee.

“The various culinary phenomena are impressive because they can increase joy for Moslems in Ramadan. While waiting for the time to break the fast, you can look for takjil (sweet food eaten upon breaking the fast), look for snacks you want to eat together when breaking your fast,” said Luhur.

Elisa from Yuli Food, one of the SMEs that provides some very interesting products, has the opportunity to share her experiences while selling products that can be eaten for sahur (before daybreak meal) and iftar (breaking the fast meal). Elisa said that before COVID-19, the basic production was snacks for school children, starting from iced drinks, cireng (fried tapioca starch with various filling), and others. "One year ago, some days before Eid, I tried to make a crispy wader," said Elisa.

Last year's Eid, Yuli Food's production reached 60% of this new product, namely crispy wader. "So, starting with Covid, I started to make crispy wader. It turns out that this is a lot of fans because they (consumers) rarely come out, this is to prepare for sahur and iftar. And now my other focus is souvenirs," Elisa continued. The first idea for Elisa decided to produce wader crispy that is when she was visiting the market, she saw wader fish. "I tried it first but it was still sluggish, so every time I wanted to eat it I heated it first, finally I found it that could last for a month," Elisa explained.

This wader crispy is one of Yuli Food's premium products, with more than 30% profit. Workers with two hours of time can earn a good income. "God willing, if one person can produce 100,000 rupiah per day, then will be four packages from four recipes. So, they will prosper, so do I, the profits for agents, for distributors are also quite large. Just pray now that they will sell well," explained Elisa.

In the beginning, Elisa was able to find and offer it by meeting each agent one by one, but after participating in the training and after getting to know one of the steering committees of the Economic Hero, namely Luhur Budijarso, Elisa began to participate in exhibitions. "So, I only sold 6,000 rupiah of frozen food from agent. If I sold it at the exhibition it could be 12,000 rupiah. Finally, I concentrated on the premium price," said Elisa.

Elisa has been in this business for 10 years since becoming an economic hero and has experienced many developments. "Since becoming an economic hero, I have been amazed because Yuli Food still exists now. The enthusiasm and innovation are extraordinary," explained Luhur.

The Special Advisor of the Minister of Social Affairs as well as the Steering Committee for Economic Heroes, Luhur Budijarso and Doddi Madya Judanto, acknowledged Elisa's struggle because she had the courage to add a new market, namely the premium market, which had almost doubled in price and was selling well.

"So, when there are ups and downs, if there are a lot of falls, so there are also a lot of rises. The proof can you see until now, and from that fall, many people have been up again and successful until now, with different stories as well. This is an example that might be an inspiration for other people," said Doddi.

"Indeed, from Mrs. Elisa we can learn a lot, how we as business people must have a strong determination and spirit, not easy to fall. What Mrs. Elisa does for Yuli Food is to get up again, look for other ways, more innovations, and another breakthrough," continued Luhur.

At the end of the story, Elisa conveyed a message to business people from her experiences, "Products are our souls, our lives. So, how do we keep us alive. Whatever we do as long as it is still on the right path, the important thing is lawful and blessed. Stay enthusiastic, just continue, "Elisa ordered.

This can also be emulated by Beneficiaries in the Social Rehabilitation Centers owned by the Ministry of Social Affairs to have the courage to innovate in business, must have the willingness to push one product forward. "The important thing is that if you fall, how many times, you must get up anytime. The journey will continue to exist, even though it looks heavy, there must be other opportunities anyway," said Doddi.

"We learn that business is never easy, there must be ups and downs, just how dare we try, start and dare to get up again when it falls. So that when there are many obstacles the business can be really solid, not easy to bankrupt, and God willing, we can continue the journey to the desired island, namely the common welfare," continued Luhur.

This webinar was attended by the Head of Social Rehabilitation Centers, employees, and beneficiaries of the Social Rehabilitation Centers belonging to the Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as business people who are learning to get a culinary snack business opportunity.
