BOYOLALI (January 27, 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs through the Wyata Guna Disability Center in Bandung responded to the emergency response from the eruption of Mount Merapi in Selo sub-district, Boyolali Regency. A total of 42 people with Visual Disabilities (PDSN) were affected by the eruption. Of this number, there are 22 people with visual disabilities in Tlogolele, Jrakah, and Klakah villages who are included in the KRB III area (distance less than 3 km from the peak of Merapi). This condition requires them to evacuate to the evacuation posts in their respective areas.

The Wyata Guna Disability Center in Bandung sent 3 personnel from the Case Response Team (Resus Team) to Selo District, Boyolali Regency to carry out identification, assessment, and psychosocial support services for blind people affected by the eruption.

The team that arrived at 07.30 WIB on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 immediately moved quickly to coordinate with the Aju Command Post in Selo District, District Social Welfare Workers (TKSK), and disaster management officers. After getting the initial information and mapping the location, the Wyata Guna Resus Team then carried out outreach to the blind people who were in the evacuee camps and in their respective homes.

Identification and assessment are carried out to determine the needs of people with visual impairments affected by the eruption, including collecting data on evacuees who are victims of the Merapi eruption.

Ika (21), one of the visually impaired persons said that the eruption made it difficult for her and Nurdin (her husband) to sell egg rolls. So that their income is reduced, sales are quiet, and they are still afraid of another eruption. Furthermore, the condition of the damaged selling equipment has not been repaired because there is no money. Ika really needs support to get back to selling because it's their only income.

In addition to conducting a needs assessment, the Resus Team also provides psychosocial support services as an effort to reduce the feeling of trauma and panic due to the eruption. This includes also providing reinforcement to families with visual disabilities on techniques for providing assistance to people with visual impairments. At the evacuee post in Tlogolele Village, Selo District, there were 90 families or 241 people who were displaced, consisting of women, the elderly and children.

The results of the needs assessment conducted by the Wyata Guna Resus Team together with the Selo District Social Welfare Worker, social volunteers from Selo sub-district, and social workers from the local village for people with visually sensory disabilities obtained the following results:
1. There is 1 person who needs help with business equipment selling vegetables. (baskets, scales, and additional capital)
2. There is 1 person who needs help with business equipment selling egg rolls (cart repair, large umbrella, gas stove, LPG gas, cooking utensils)
3. There is 1 person in need of massage business equipment (massage bed, pillow, bed sheet, massage oil/massage cream)
4. There are 39 PDSN people who need assistance with basic needs / basic necessities (rice, oil, sugar, eggs, side dishes)

One of the members of the Resus Team, Lulu Ridwan, said that the Wyata Guna Disability Center in Bandung moved quickly to respond to reports from the Selo District as many as 42 people with visual and sensory disabilities who were affected by the Merapi eruption. The results we get in the field are reported quickly to the Head of the Balai, so that the leadership can take the next step as a manifestation of the implementation of ATENSI (Social Rehabilitation Assistance) in emergency situations.

Lulu Ridwan, who is also a social worker, said that not only assistance with basic needs was needed, but what was also important was the provision of psychosocial support services to those affected by the eruption.
