LABUAN BAJO (November 27, 2020) - The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs continues to move to distribute aid to all regions, one of which is Eastern Indonesia, West Manggarai Regency, Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.

The Ministry of Social Affairs distributes a number of social assistance and assistance for social rehabilitation services. One of the social rehabilitation service assistance provided by the Ministry of Social Affairs through the Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation is childcare materials, school equipment assistance and social rehabilitation service assistance for victims of drug abuse with a total assistance of Rp518.8 million.

The assistance was symbolically given by the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs' Dharma Wanita Advisor, Grace Batubara to LKS foster children Santa Damian Binongko, LKS MOP foster children, SLBN Komodo students and the Head of the NTT Provincial Social Office, Jamaludin.

Grace revealed that this activity is a special social activity. "Today is special for Labuan Bajo, because starting from social harmony assistance, Cash Social Assistance (BST) to assistance for people with disabilities, children and victims of drug abuse are distributed today. This is proof that the Ministry of Social Affairs is present in the community throughout Indonesia," she explained at Batu Cermin Village Office, West Manggarai.

Child care assistance consisting of assistive devices for children with disabilities and children's educational tools were given to 20 children who were at the Santa Damian Binongko Social Welfare Institution (LKS) and the Missionary of the Poor (MOP) LKS. Meanwhile, school equipment assistance was given to 20 children from the Komodo State Special School (SLBN).

The Ministry of Social Affairs through the Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation has also distributed assistance for social rehabilitation services such as meeting basic needs, therapy, family support and skills to 151 drug abuse victims.

This social rehabilitation service assistance has been distributed through the Institution of Compulsory Reporting Recipients (IPWL) Yayasan Warna Kasih Kupang and Mitra Harapan IPWL (Mandatory Reporting Recipient Institution) in May and September 2020.

The Regional Secretary of West Manggarai Regency, Ismansyur welcomed the arrival of the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs. "As a local government, I thank you for coming from the Ministry of Social Affairs. With the encouragement and motivation through this assistance, hopefully our community's efforts will be even better. The presence of the Ministry of Social Affairs also helps us minimize social problems in Manggarai Regency," he said.

The head of the Kupang "Naibonat" Children's Center, Supriyono, who was found at the location of the activity, said that in the future, the Center as the Ministry of Social's Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) will carry out massive outreach to children who need protection. This outreach will involve various stakeholders, ranging from Social Workers, Social Office to the local community.

In line with that, the Head of the Kupang "Efata" Center will also in the future encourage social rehabilitation services to be carried out in the family, so that the center provides home care services which include physical therapy, psychosocial and mental spiritual therapy, livelihood therapy and family support. "Hopefully with this assistance, children can be independent," he concluded, who was also present at the social assistance distribution activity of the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs.

What also did not escape the spotlight was the arrival of Grace Batubara who was greeted by the typical NTT music from a keyboard instrument played by Aldi, one of the Beneficiaries of the Komodo SLBN. Aldi is a visually impaired person with a visual impairment but has the expertise to play the keyboard.

This activity was also attended by representatives from the Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation, Directorate General of Social Protection and Security, Directorate General of Social Empowerment, Ministry of Social partners from Bank Mandiri, BRI, PT. Pos Indonesia, Head of NTT Province Social Office and officials from Batu Cermin Village, Labuan Bajo, NTT.
