WEST LOMBOK (March 19, 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs through the "Paramita" Children's Center in Mataram responded to the case of a child suffering from hydrocephalus in Kuripan, West Lombok Regency, named QNS who was born in January 2021.
Currently the baby is 2.5 months old, she was born in a poor family, her father works as a motorcycle washer and currently does not have a permanent job due to the pandemic. Her biological mother is a housewife. QNS is the third of 3 children. Both siblings were born and grew normally, but QNS showed abnormalities when her mother was 6 months pregnant. QNS' mother did an ultrasound and QNS was diagnosed with hydrocephalus.
Based on the history of pregnancy, Desi, the baby's biological mother said, "When I was pregnant with my child (QNS), my second child was only 8 months old and I had to continue breastfeeding my second child, and when I was 6 months pregnant the baby's head circumference was already noticeably lighter. It was bigger than a normal fetus in general and it turned out that when I was about to give birth, I didn't have contractions, so I decided to do caesarean section."
QNS was born with a birth weight of 4800 grams. At the age of 1 month, the baby's head has been removed from the fluid so that the diameter of the baby's head is now getting smaller.
Every month the parents bring the control baby to the NTB Provincial Hospital for medical treatment from pediatricians, neurologist, neurosurgeons, as well as plastic surgeons.
On that occasion, the Head of Section for Social Rehabilitation Services, Social Workers and Nurses at "Paramita" Children's Center was accompanied by the West Lombok Regency Social Work Serve Unit.
The Child Case Response Team at Paramita Children's Center in Mataram took several actions, including conducting a rapid assessment, medical examination by a nurse, and crisis intervention for children and families.
Social Workers also provide parenting to parents by educating related to care for children who need special protection, supporting the Head of the Family (Father) in efforts to handle Child Health.
