MoSA Distributes Assistance for Flood Victims in Solok Selatan in total of IDR1,6 Billion

JAKARTA (15 December 2019) – The Ministry of Social Affairs distributed emergency response assistance on flash flood disaster in Solok Selatan Regency, West Sumatra Province for total of IDR1,6 billion. The management focused on the evacuation to the safer place, especially for the vulnerable group.

“The MoSA’s team have already coordinate with the Social Office of West Sumatera Province and Solok Selatan for victim management and supervise the current situation. The assistance has been distributed including the logistic assistance worth IDR1,6 billion,” said the Minister of Social Affairs Juliari P. Batubara on Jakarta, Sunday (15/12/2019).

So far, the Ministry of Social Affairs had delivered the officer of social protection for natural disaster victims from the center for the assessment.

As we known, there was flash flood which happened twice in 20 November and 13 December on Solok Selatan Regency. The flood happened in three regencies, which was Koto Parik Gadang Diateh District, Sungai Pagu District and Pauh Duo District.

The impacted area was East Nagari Pakan Rabaa, Central Nagari Pakan Rabaa, Nagari Pasar Muaro Labuah, South Nagari Lubuk Ulang Aliang, and Central Nagari Lubuk Ulang Aliang.

According to the data source from the Emergency Operation Center of Disaster Preparedness Cadets of Solok Selatan Regency, the flood resulted in a death victim, 622 persons became evacuees, 26 houses got damaged, and a bridge collapsed.

Since the disaster came, the Ministry of Social Affairs moved quickly through the Disaster Preparedness Cadets. “Disaster Preparedness Cadets from the West Sumatera Province and Solok Selatan Regency has built the emergency tent and evacuates the victims as well as providing the psychosocial support service. They also manage the public field kitchen in RTH Muaro Labuah shelter,” said the Director General of Social Protection and Security Harry Hikmat.

He said that, in the disaster, the duty for Ministry of Social Affairs was to activate the prepared system for integrated natural disaster management. The system which meant was National Cluster which coordinated by National Board of Disaster Management, where the MoSA has the duty in Protection, Shelter, and Logistic Clusters.

“The management focus is on evacuating the people to the safer place, as well as the vulnerable group consist of elderly, children, person with disability, and other special groups,” he said.

When the local government had established the emergency status, the Ministry of Social Affairs mobilized all Natural Disaster Potency Management. Which was the mobilization of Disaster Preparedness Cadets, KSB, Disaster Preparedness Vehicle, supplies, evacuation tools, the communication tools and systems, and government institution’s cooperation with NGO.

For the flood in Solok Selatan Regency, the Emergency Response Assistance from the MoSA consisted of Phase 1 Logistic, which handed over to the Social Office of Solok Selatan Regency, Logistic Assistance Phase 22 which handed over to the Social Office of West Sumatera Province.

The distributed assistance consisted of 300 packages of family cleaning equipment, 10 units of water pump machine, 6 unit of generator machine, 10 units of water suction pump machine and spiral hose, 1000 packages of groceries, heir compensation for a dead victim worth IDR15 million.

“The total amount of all assistance is IDR1,6 billion,” said the Director General of Social Protection and Security.

The Logistic assistance consisted of foods, evacuation tools, family equipment and clothes. The assistances sent to the West Regional Warehouse of Ministry of Social Affairs in Palembang.
