MOSA Provides Rehabilitation Services for Children Victim of Domestic Violence in North Padang Lawas

PADANG LAWAS UTARA (18 December 2021) – The Ministry of Social Affairs through the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) Karya Bahagia Rehabilitation Center Medan and Handayani Rehabilitation Center Jakarta responded quickly to R (7) a child victim of domestic violence with a full body injuries. R received rehabilitation services from the Ministry of Social Affairs with the approval of the relevant parties.

Social Minister, Tri Rismaharini immediately ordered a follow up by sending the Karya Bahagia Rehabilitation Center Team to North Padang Lawas as the closest rehabilitation  center in collaboration with Handayani Rehabilitation Center in Jakarta.

"The Rehabilitation Center team arrived in North Padang Lawas on Friday (10/12) and immediately coordinated with the Social Office and was welcomed by Aspan, the Head of North Padang Lawas Social Rehabilitation Division and proceeded to the location where R was being treated by residents," said Head of Handayani Rehabilitation Center Hasrifah Musa in Padang Lawas Utara (18/12).

The joint team of the two rehabilitation centers met Rahmat (29), a resident who found R with the village officials. During the meeting, the Rehabilitation Center team asked for a chronology of R's case and the child's development while in the care of the residents.

Rahmat told the story when he and his wife were in the fields not far from his house. R approached the couple with many wounds on the body. Seeing this condition, Rahmat took him to his house and reported it to the village head. Then, he and the Village Head reported the case to the South Tapanuli Police. 

The police then arrested R's biological father and stepmother based on the report. R's parents confessed to all their actions. "After hearing the chronology from the reporter, the team together with R, Rahmat and village officials accompanied by Social Worker Serve Unit (Sakti Peksos), and the Social Office visited the South Tapanuli Police," said Hasrifah.

The team submitted an intervention plan by bringing R to Handayani Rehabilitation Center Jakarta to get temporary protection while his parents were in the legal process.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of South Tapanuli Police AKP Paulus Simamora received Ministry of Social Affairs' team along with R and others. It was agreed that R would be taken to Karya Bahagia Rehabilitation Center Medan and then referred to Handayani Rehabilitation Center Jakarta. "This is with the approval of R's biological father who is being detained through a statement letter," he said.

On Saturday (11/12) the two Rehabilitation Centers visited the South Tapanuli Police to discuss the decision regarding R's rehabilitation. The meeting was attended by the Head of Criminal Investigation, Head of Women and Children Service Unit, Child Protection Office, Social Office, Village Head, and Rahmat as the reporter who also took care of R.

Handayani Rehabilitation Center Jakarta, facilitated by Karya Bahagia Rehabilitation Center Medan is ready to provide assistance to restore R's psychological condition and provide protection while his parents are in the legal process.

On Monday (12/12) R was referred to Handayani Rehabilitation Center accompanied by social workers, nurses and psychologists from both centers for further social intervention from Handayani Rehabilitation Center in Jakarta.
