JAKARTA (11 November 2019) - Law Number 14 of 2019 concerning Social Workers states that a Social Worker is someone who has the knowledge, skills and value of social work practice and has obtained a certificate of competence. Thus, the functions and duties of social workers are increasingly clear, recognized and equal to other professions in solving the many cases experienced by children in Indonesia, encouraging each region to have social workers who specifically handle child cases.

Based on data from the Directorate of Child Social Rehabilitation in 2019, the number of Social Workers who specifically handle children's social problems, hereinafter referred to as the Social Worker Service Unit (SAKTI PEKSOS), is 710 people spread across 459 districts / cities in Indonesia.

To improve the performance and responsibility of Sakti Peksos in developing children's social functions, so that children can grow and develop optimally, the Directorate of Child Social Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia carries out Technical Guidance activities for the Social Worker Service Unit at Harris Vertu Harmoni Hotel Jakarta. The activity was opened by Social Minister Juliari P. Batubara accompanied by the Director General of Social Rehabilitation Edi Suharto on Monday (11/11/2019).

With regard to the prevalence of cases that occur in children, currently data recorded in the field has reached 11,088 cases of children (Data on Cases of Sakti Peksos per October 2019). The success of handling child problems through PROGRESA, of course, cannot be separated from the very large role and contribution of Social Workers. The activity, which was held for four days from 10 to 13 November, was attended by 122 Sakti Peksos from regencies / cities in Indonesia.
