"Pangurangi" Center on the Assessment of People Living with HIV in Toraja District

NORTH TORAJA (2 July 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs through the Pangurangi Takalar Center conducted an assessment of 45 people with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in North Toraja Regency.

 

The head of the Pangurangi Center, Pengalamen Surbakti said that an important assessment was carried out before determining and knowing the needs of people living with HIV in North Toraja Regency. Surbakti also said that this assessment involved Social Welfare Workers at the Center as well as peer mentors in North Toraja Regency and HIV program managers at the Puskesmas (Public Health Center).

 

The Social Counselor of the Center, Qadriansyah said that from the results of the assessment carried out by local officers, it was found that 6 out of 45 PLHIV in North Toraja Regency could receive residential-based ATENSI Program services in the Center, the remaining 39 ODHIV needed community-based ATENSI Program services.

 

Elim Hospital HIV program manager, dr. Yain, when meeting with officers from the Center, stated that many of the people living with HIV in North Toraja Regency were economically poor, many of them migrated and when they returned home they brought the HIV to their families, added Yain, the program brought by the Ministry of Social Affairs will very helpful for people living with HIV in this area, "We are ready to support the Ministry of Social Affairs in implementing programs carried out in North Toraja Regency" explained Yain.
