PEKANBARU (April 20, 2021) - It was reported that there was an allegation of the case of selling baby and illegal adoption by a midwife in Pekanbaru City some time ago, currently the case is being handled by the Riau Police officers. This illegal adoption practice began when a woman (KR) who was in unwanted pregnancy met a midwife for childbirth. Then the midwife offered to find adoptive parents for the child to be born to the victim. On December 23, 2020, the victim gave birth to a boy who was assisted by a midwife.

After giving birth, the midwife gave the victim Rp 3 million for recovery cost, Rp 500 thousand for BPJS, and Rp 500 thousand for children's clothes. However, since that time the victim was not allowed to meet her child and it is suspected that the midwife was practicing illegal adoption and selling the victim's baby. The baby is currently in good health and fine, although for 4 months from birth, the baby is under the care of adoptive parents who are sought by a midwife.

"The case is being processed, is being handled, several witnesses have been questioned, including the reported (unscrupulous midwife). We are still doing some deepening, maybe we will ask for expert information as well, "said Head of Riau Police Directorate I Sub-Directorate IV, Dumaria.

Responding to this case, the “Rumbai” Children's Center in Pekanbaru, made efforts to provide protection and security for the victim's baby. "Handover of the victim's child whose case is currently in the process of further investigation. We will provide temporary security and care while waiting for the process of resolving this problem with clear certainty, "said the Head of the" Rumbai "Children's Center, Ahmad Subarkah.

The “Rumbai” Children's Center in Pekanbaru has prepared steps to ensure the needs and safety of infant victims, starting from preparing dormitories, meeting the basic needs of babies, preparing caretakers and baby supplies, limiting visits, and being selective in admitting incoming guests.

"In the meantime, following the existing regulations for adoption, it is really necessary to go through the processes, mechanisms, and requirements that we have to go through. The adoption process is enacted in Government Regulation No.54 of 2007 on the Implementation of Adoption and Minister of Social Affairs Regulation No. 110 of 2009 on Requirements for Adoption of Children. Several requirements must be met if you want to adopt. Then it is clarified again with the Technical Guidelines for Adoption Procedures in Director General Regulation No.02 of 2012," Ahmad Subarkah added.

In the meeting attended by the Riau Police, the Riau Province Social Service, the Pekanbaru City Social Service, the Riau Child Protection Commission, and the parents of baby, the Head of the “Rumbai” Children Center, Ahmad Subarkah, emphasized the importance of commitment, coordination, and good collaboration from stakeholders for the implementation of the adoption process and temporary care following the rules to avoid abuse, fraud, and illegal adoption practices.

"We also hope that with the presence of ladies and gentlemen, we can equalize the perception of the process and mechanism of child care or adoption. This is our common foundation. Do not let problems occur because currently there are still some cases that have occurred related to this adoption," said Ahmad Subarkah.
