JAKARTA (9 May 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs affirms the government's commitment to provide access to Covid-19 vaccination for all Indonesian people, especially for persons with disabilities who are vulnerable to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Melati” Center Jakarta as one of the Technical Service Units (UPT) of the Ministry of Social Affairs is mandated to provide assistance in Covid-19 Vaccination activities for persons with disabilities organized by the Ministry of BUMN and the Ministry of Health at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta. Vaccine assistance activities lasted for 3 days, namely on Tuesday (4/5), Friday (7/5) and Saturday (8/5).

Acting the Head of the “Melati” Center, Puti Chairida Anwar, assigned 3 teams to provide vaccine assistance. Each team consists of 1 social worker, 1 nurse and 1 driver. Puti urged the team to pay attention to health protocols in a disciplined manner while carrying out their duties.

"We have a noble mandate to provide vaccine assistance for persons with disabilities in 3 social institutions. Even though we are fasting, we are sure that the Melati team will be able to provide the best service,” said Puti.

Not only “Melati” Center has the task of providing vaccine assistance for persons with disabilities. Other Ministry of Social Affairs UPTs in the Jakarta, Bogor and Bekasi areas also carry out vaccine assistance tasks. Vaccine assistance on Tuesday (4/5) was conducted for persons with disabilities who were Social Assisted Residents (WBS) at the Budi Bhakti Social Institution (PSBD), Cengkareng. A total of 152 WBS people were confirmed to have passed the initial screening for the second phase of the covid-19 vaccine.

Azizah, a person with physical disabilities at PSBD Budi Bhakti Cengkareng, expressed his impression after undergoing vaccination.

“I was scared mom when I wanted to get an injection, but because you were next to me, I was brave. Thank you, ma'am, for cheering me on and accompanying me. Next time please come to see me again at the orphanage, ma'am, so that I will tell you another story,” said Azizah.

Furthermore, on Friday (7/5) vaccine assistance was carried out for 115 persons with disabilities who became WBS at the Bhakti Luhur Pamulang Foundation, Banten. Then Saturday (8/5) vaccine assistance was carried out for 102 persons with disabilities who became WBS at the Bina Karya Social Institution, Rancalabuh Banten.

In addition to picking up and delivering until the Covid-19 vaccination process at Gelora Bung Karno is complete, the “Melati” Center team also provides assistance during the vaccination process. Food parcels are also given to persons with disabilities who have completed their vaccinations.

Irma Indrayani, the Social Worker of “Melati” Center who is on duty on Saturdays, shared her experiences in providing vaccines for persons with disabilities.

"It's amazing, even though you have to leave at 03.00 am and dawn on the way, but Alhamdulillah it is given the convenience and strength. Our tiredness was paid off with the joy of the orphanage children when they got their gifts after the vaccines were over. Hopefully this vaccine effort will protect us all and this pandemic will be over quickly, "said Irma.
