"Toddopuli" Children Center Conducts Assessment of the Children of the Palu City Orphanage
PALU (April 24, 2021) - The "Toddopuli" Children Center in Makassar responded to the incident that occurred at the Nurotul Munawarah Orphanage, Jl. Sapta Marga, North Birobuli Village, South Palu District, Central Sulawesi Province.
The chronology of events is that there was persecution which resulted in the victim being seriously injured and dying on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. This was triggered because there was a debt between the perpetrator and the victim. The victim Ar (48) came to the orphanage with the intention of collecting a debt, the victim was greeted by the caretaker of the orphanage Dr (47).
At the time of the incident, Victim Ar asked for IDR20 million in cash to pay for the orphanage's land which had not been paid off. However, Dr felt that the debt had been paid off, and in the end, there was an argument which resulted in persecution. The victim tried to save himself but was still being chased by the perpetrator and his younger sibling carrying a sharp weapon in the form of a machete.
At that time, the victim's brother, Sr. (54), was also abused by the two perpetrators. The two victims were brought to the hospital by local residents, but unfortunately, the victim Ar died, while his brother Sr was seriously injured and is still undergoing treatment at the hospital.
As a result of this incident, the management of the orphanage and also the children of the orphanage were detained at the Headquarters of the South Palu Police.
Receiving the incident report, the Ministry of Social Affairs through the "Toddopuli" Children Center in Makassar immediately went to and coordinated with the Palu City Social Office.
The Center team, Restiana conducted an assessment of the orphanage children, together with the Supervisor of the Sakti Peksos and the Sakti Peksos in Palu. From the results of the assessment carried out by the orphanage children who are now being secured at a halfway house belonging to the Palu City Social Office, the number of children in the orphanage is 12 people, and some of the children have been sent home to their parents and their families. They are traumatized by the incident. There are still 4 children who are still at the halfway house and it is planned that they will also be sent home to their families.
The "Toddopuli" Children Center in Makassar also distributed ATENSI support in the form of basic food assistance to 4 orphanage children who are currently still at halfway houses to fulfill their daily needs. Currently, they really need nutritional fulfillment and mental therapy to relieve their trauma from that event.
