"Toddopuli" Children's Center Provides Psychosocial Therapy for Child Victims of Sexual Crimes

ENREKANG (March 9, 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs through the "Toddopuli" Social Rehabilitation Center for Children in Need of Special Protection (BRSAMPK) Makassar provides psychosocial assistance and therapy for children who are victims of sexual crimes in Enrekang Regency.

This activity is the Center's response to a request from the local Social Office to provide Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) support to Child Victims of Sexual Crime in the area.

The Sub Coordinator of Assessment and Social Advocacy together with Social Workers who went to the field immediately conducted a Comprehensive Assessment to find out more deeply about the physical and mental condition of the child.

From the results of the assessment carried out on the child victim of JC (Pr 16 years old), information was obtained that this sexual crime was committed by a friend of JC who he had just met through social media. The victim's mother found out about the incident and reported it to the police.

At the time of the assessment, the victim's physical condition was quite good, but her face still showed sadness. The victim revealed that she felt inferior and embarrassed to hang out with her friends since the incident was handled by the authorities. This condition also affects the level of children's participation in taking lessons at school through online. Plus the child is a family with a low income (poor).

Therefore, Tamsil Jayadi conducts Psychoeducational Therapy and provides strengthening of child care to the victim's family. According to Tamsil, "This activity aims to restore children's self-confidence, so that children and their families can continue to survive and carry out activities as usual to achieve a better life".

Mrs. Jumiati as the Head of the Persons with Social Deviance Issues, Victims of Human Trafficking, and Victims of Drugs Abuse who participated in accompanying the activity expressed her gratitude for the form of support provided by the "Toddopuli" Children's Center Makassar which immediately responded to the request. "Certainly, we also hope that the Center can provide reinforcement and guidance to assistants or social welfare workers in implementing social rehabilitation assistance for children's problems in our district," she said.

In addition to carrying out these activities, Officers of "Toddopuli" Children's Center also provide attention assistance in the form of school supplies and needs to JC (16 years old girl) and KF (6 years old girl), the Sexual Crime Victims and AF (16 years old boy), the Child Witness of Subsidized Fuel Smuggling Case.
