JAKARTA (28 May 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs through the "Mulya Jaya" Training Center in Jakarta is moving progressively to provide services to the Persons Needing Social Welfare Services (PPKS). One of them is for the elderly in two sub-districts, namely Gedong Village, Pasar Rebo District, and Pondok Ranggon Village, Cipayung District, East Jakarta. Following the direction of the Director General of Social Rehabilitation, Harry Hikmat said that this service is a form of outreach carried out by Social Workers by directly visiting the residence and conducting a comprehensive assessment of the needs of the elderly in the area.

The head of the "Mulya Jaya" Training Center, Ai Herliyah, said that this was a form of Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) service provided by the "Mulya Jaya" to PPKS with the concept of multi-functional services.

"We have reached a number of elderly who are in great need and we immediately carry out the initial identification and assessment to find out their respective needs", she added.

The results of the assessment show a variety of problems and needs, such as health care assistance because they are seriously ill and have no medical costs, accessibility tools such as canes, wheelchairs, basic food necessities, clothing, mattresses, toiletries, and business capital for potential elderly.

"Mulya Jaya" provided ATENSI assistance to 18 elderly. ATENSI assistance provided includes assistance and health services for the elderly in a sick condition, additional nutrition, provision of accessibility tools, other equipment, and development of business capital for potential elderly.

Tati Jaitun, an elderly who is currently suffering from lung disease and blood clots cried with emotion when she was visited at her rented house. Suherman, the husband of Tati Jaitun, who accompanies his wife, Tati Jaitun also gets a medical check-up from the nurse from the "Mulya Jaya" Training Center in Jakarta.

"I am very grateful to the Ministry of Social Affairs for providing this assistance for us. Honestly, we did not expect to be assisted, thank you again", said Suherman.

The same thing was felt by Samiyati, an elderly onion peeler. Every day she works with an income from peeling onions, which is paid Rp. 2,000 / kg. During the assessment, she revealed to the Social Worker that she was eager to get additional income from other businesses. Samiyati, who is still potential, has the ability to make gendar crackers made from rice.

"Thank you, Madame. Please convey my greetings to the Minister of Social Affairs because I can start a business with this assistance," she said when she was assisted.

After being given ATENSI assistance, in the future, the elderly will also be assisted in making BPJS cards for those who do not have health insurance. The 2021 National Elderly Day Commemoration (HLUN) is an unforgettable moment for the elderly who have benefited from ATENSI's assistance. Through this momentum, it is hoped that the elderly, both potential and non-potential, will be more empowered and happier with their families.
