Pekalongan (November 30, 2024) - The Ministry of Social Affairs continues to move quickly in dealing with the impact of floods that hit Pekalongan City, Central Java by distributing various assistance. The assistance was distributed from two logistics warehouses of the Ministry of Social Affairs, located at the Pekalongan City Social Service and the Central Java Provincial Social Service.

“The Ministry of Social Affairs ensures that the basic needs of affected residents are still fulfilled,” said Vice Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono in a written statement in Jakarta on Saturday (30/11/2024).

The details of the Ministry of Social Affairs’ assistance include 1,000 kilograms of rice; 100 packages of ready-to-eat food; 200 packages of ready-to-eat side dishes; 80 packages of children's food; 30 sheets of mattresses; 20 sheets of rolling tents; 70 sheets of blankets; 30 family kit packages; and 24 packages of kids ware. The total assistance distributed amounted to IDR 79.7 million.

A number of emergency response measures have been carried out by the Ministry of Social Affairs through the Disaster Response Volunteer (Tagana) and related parties in the field including evacuating residents, establishing posts, activating independent kitchens, and providing health services at evacuation sites.

Previously, Pekalongan City was hit by flooding due to the collapse of a 10-meter-long emergency embankment on the Bremi River which triggered the overflow of river water mixed with tidal water into settlements. To date, the flood is still inundating some points although the water level has begun to recede.

A total of 1,362 residents were affected from two villages in Pekalongan Regency and one urban village in Pekalongan City, with 671 of them evacuated to three locations. There were no casualties in this incident, while material losses are being collected by the team in the field.

Based on the Decree of the Mayor of Pekalongan City Number 0543/300.2 Year 2024, the emergency response status was imposed for 14 days, from November 25 to December 8, 2024. During this period, aid distribution and handling efforts continue to be implemented to ensure that affected residents can return to normal life as soon as possible.
