JAKARTA (April 4th, 2024) – The community empowerment program through Nusantara Economic Hero (PENA) carried out by the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA), throughout January-March 2024, has succeeded in graduating 11,260 Beneficiary Families (KPM) from social assistance. This achievement exceeds the PENA Program graduation achievement throughout 2023 which was recorded at 10,073 KPM. Meanwhile, the total PENA KPM that has graduated from 2023 to March 2024 are 21,333 KPM.
"Graduation is carried out if the monthly income of KPMs PENA is above the Regency/City Minimum Wage (UMR) so that the social assistance recipient is eligible for graduation," said Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini in front of PENA Program participants, both face to face and virtually at Aneka Bhakti Building, MoSA, Thursday (4/4).
The Minister said that PENA Program was originally targeted to graduate 7,500 KPMs throughout 2023. "It turns out that the achievement far exceeded the target," said the Minister.
PENA Program is run by MoSA to empower people who have low incomes or are below the poverty line. Through this program, KPM receives capital assistance to purchase goods and raw materials. Apart from that, they are also assisted in product packaging, marketing and financial management.
"MoSA will continue to run PENA Program because it feels the benefits can increase people's income," said the Minister.
The Minister said that success is everyone's right. Everyone can achieve success as long as they are willing to work hard and are not discouraged. “If your business fails, get up and try again. If we fall again, we have to get up again, and so on until failure is afraid of us," said the Minister, motivating KPMs.
The Minister gave the example of eucalyptus oil craftsmen on Buru Island, Maluku, which is located very far from Ambon. Because of MoSA's assistance in meeting quality and packaging standards, Buru Island eucalyptus products now have been marketed at Krisna Bali Souvenir Center. "If we work hard, then God's hand will come beyond what we expect," said the Minister.
In front of KPMs, Risma also introduced a pastry trader in Surabaya who had been successful in selling and marketing products. Initially, cookies under "Diah Cookies" brand were only sold for IDR 10,000 per package. However, through the hands of the designers who are members of Tata Rupa Nusantara, the packaging is getting better and the quality of the taste is getting more delicious. Due to the increase in product quality, currently Diah's products are sold for more than IDR 60,000 per package.
"The role of MoSA in empowering us can be felt. MoSA assists in maintaining product quality, packaging and marketing so that our turnover continues to increase. Thank you, Mrs. Risma," said Diah as "Diah Cookies" cookie entrepreneur.
On that occasion, the Minister also handed over certificates of appreciation to students from several universities that are members of Tata Rupa Nusantara. These students are currently receiving higher education at London School of Public Relations (LSPR), Pelita Harapan University (UPH), YAI Education Institute, Esa Unggul University, KALBIS University, and Paramadina University. They are the students who help design KPMs PENA products to make them more attractive and have high selling power, thus influencing product prices and marketing.
