KARANGASEM (April 5th, 2024) – Having two children with disabilities and living with limitations does not make Ni Nengah Tini (45) and her husband I Ketut Suiti (46) give up on their life. They cared for her two children with great affection. Located at Banjar Dinas Kebung Kauh Dusun, Telaga Tawang Village, Sideman District, Karangasem Regency, Bali, this family lives in a simple house in the middle of the hills on land belonging to someone else.
Tini's two children with disabilities are named Ni Luh Sukawati (21), the first child who has suffered from folia paralysis and epilepsy since birth and I Komang Wisnu Angga Wiguna (5), the third child who has suffered from wither paralysis since two years old. With their condition, both of them cannot carry out their daily activities without the help of other people. Meanwhile, her second child, Ni Kadek Mei Antari (12), lives in normal condition and is now studying in grade 4 of elementary school.
Her youngest child has been attending therapy since two years old. However, due to the distance and the transportation to Karangasem Hospital, Angga has no longer undergoing physiotherapy for the past year.
Her youngest child has been attending therapy since two years old. However, due to the distance and the transportation to Karangasem Hospital, Angga has no longer undergoing physiotherapy for the past year.
"In fact, physiotherapy is important for I Komang Wisnu," explained Ni Putu Esti, an Associate Expert Social Worker when contacted on Tuesday (2/4).
To meet his daily needs, Suiti works as a casual daily laborer. Every day, he climbs coconut trees to look for sap and earns IDR 25,000 per day. However, he is classified as hardworking and tenacious.
Apart from looking for a roomie, he also works as a construction project worker when needed and earns IDR 100,000 per day. Meanwhile, his wife cares for and accompanies his two children with disabilities every day.
This case received attention from the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA). Through "Mahatmiya" Center in Bali, the team went directly to assess needs and provide assistance. "Mahatmiya" Center in Bali has coordinated with Karangasem Regency Social Service to take Sukawati first to undergo physiotherapy.
“We have taken Sukawati to do physiotherapy. As they use BPJS, the services must be tiered from the first health facility," explained Esti.
Apart from facilitating treatment, MoSA also provides ATENSI Entrepreneurship assistance in the form of raising ducks in 1 cage measuring 4 meters x 5 meters and its equipment. The cage contains 40 female ducks and 4 male ducks, as well as one bag of animal feed as business capital. By providing this assistance, it is hoped that Tini's family's economy will improve, thus motivating Tini to care for her children.
Duck assistance is provided since the family has a working background on a duck farm so they have basic knowledge about how to raise ducks. Furthermore, their living environment is close to a water source, making it possible to start a duck farming business. MoSA also provides assistance to fulfill a decent life in the form of basic necessities, additional nutrition and personal hygiene equipment.
MoSA together with Karangasem Regency Social Service continue to provide assistance during the therapy process and monitor the development of their business.
