MEDAN (October 18th, 2019) - Based on data from the Report on the Development of HIV AIDS & Sexually Transmitted Infectious Diseases (PIMS) in the Second Quarter of 2019 the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, the number of HIV cases reported in North Sumatra, reported up to March 2019 was 17,412 cases. This number is based on the criteria of job, Commercial Sex Workers (CSWs) up to 2019 as many as 341 cases.

Following this, the Social Rehabilitation Center for People with "Bahagia" Social Rehabilitation Center for People with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (BRSODH) Medan held Key Populations Mitigation activity in Nibung Raya Localization, Medan Bandar Baru Localization, Deli Serdang and Penitentiary Class IIA Tanjung Gusta Medan. This Key Population Mitigation Activity is a service activity outside the rehabilitation center that is carried out on an ongoing basis in several key population locations prone to HIV / AIDS transmission.

This activity aims to provide information and education about HIV for populations vulnerable to HIV / AIDS. In this activity took part in agencies / institutions related to HIV prevention and HIV activists such as the Medan City Regional AIDS Commission (KPAD), Deli Serdang District Public Health Office and Pedila Caring Women Community (P3M) Medan.

The activity that was carried out on October 16 to 18  2019 was also carried out blood examination by officers from the Bandar Baru Deli Serdang Community Health Center and also distribution of free condoms from the P3M Community.

It is hoped that this activity can reduce the impact of HIV transmission, reduce to eliminate new HIV infections, reduce deaths from HIV / AIDS and eliminate stigma and discrimination against PLWHA, as well as provide information about services provided by "Bahagia" BRSODH Medan.
