JAKARTA (12 December 2022) -- The celebration of International Day of Persons with Disability (HDI) 2022 is around the world, including in Jakarta. Various series of activities were held by the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA), such as the distribution of assistance to students of Special Needs School B Pangudi Luhur and members of the Indonesian Blind Association (Pertuni).

Following the direction of the Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, the 2022 HDI commemoration takes the theme "Meaningful Participation Towards Sustainable Inclusive Development". This spirit is realized by building an ecosystem that supports persons with disabilities through the Indonesia Hear, Indonesia Visualize and Indonesia Take Steps programs.

Through those programs, MoSA provides accessibility tools to support their daily activities. Apart from that, the right to live a decent life is realized by providing basic food and nutrition packages.

MoSA through the Jakarta Handayani Center handed over Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) in the form of Hearing Aids (ABD) in collaboration with Melawai Optics, nutritional assistance, school supplies, and personal hygiene kits for 30 students of SLB B Pangudi Luhur in West Jakarta. Total assistance worth IDR 133,530,000 was handed over directly to the Director of SLB B Pangudi Luhur, Bruder Darman on Friday (9/12).

On Saturday (10/12), the Jakarta Handayani Center also distributed assistance in the form of adaptive walking sticks, basic food, and nutrition packages to 26 members of Pertuni East Jakarta. The total assistance provided was IDR 89,529,440.

Coordinator of the Working Group for Disabilities, Teni Tresnayanti representing the Head of Sentra Handayani Romal Uli Jaya Sinaga said that the assistance provided was an effort to respect, protect, and fulfill the rights of PwD.

"We hope that this assistance can increase the learning enthusiasm for all students of SLB B Pangudi Luhur and be useful for their daily activities. Also for Pertuni members, this assistance may be beneficial for them to perform their role in their families and communities as well as whatever jobs they currently have," Teni said.

MoSA’s efforts received appreciation from SLB B Pangudi Luhur. "To the Social Affairs Minister Risma and her staff, thank you for this assistance. We hope that this assistance can have our children communicate well, and be more diligent and disciplined," said Bruder.

A positive response was also conveyed by the Pertuni Secretary Muhammad Harri Santoso. His party felt helped by being given an adaptive walking stick which they called sophisticated. The reason is, that this stick is equipped with various sensors for detecting water, fire, smoke, and other disturbances.

When there is an obstacle in front of a person with visual impairment, there will be a notification in the form of vibration or sound, so that people with visual disabilities can avoid these obstacles.

"Thank you, Ministry of Social Affairs. We can now be more alert when moving around with the adaptive walking sticks provided," said Harri.
