JAKARTA (May 4th, 2020) – “Mulya Jaya” Center in Jakarta, which is one of the Technical Implementation Units (UPT) of the Ministry of Social Affairs, since April 30th, 2020 has become a Temporary Shelter (TPS) for the Social Welfare Service Recipients (PPKS) affected by COVID-19. With various backgrounds and problems, “Mulya Jaya” Center in Jakarta collaborates with the local government in Jabodetabek, especially the Social Service, to be able to provide comprehensive services.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, almost all levels of society were affected quite significantly, especially in the economic sector. This impact is deeply felt because it has a direct effect on everyone’s job.

Like the two women from Palembang who worked at a company in Tangerang City, they experienced layoffs (PHK) due to restrictions on activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. These two women were laid off without severance pay so they could not return to their hometowns. Instead of going back home, they had to swallow the bitter taste of being kicked out of their rented house because they no longer could pay the rent. For several days, they were found neglected in the area of Saung KWT 60A Dumpit, Jatiuwung, Tangerang City.

Community Social Workers (PSM) brought these two women to the Tangerang City Social Service. After conducting initial assessment and identification, tonight at 7 PM current local time, J and E were referred to “Mulya Jaya” Center in Jakarta for temporary shelter services.

“I’ve been working at the textile company for about one year and three months, sir. Because of Corona, the company cannot pay us anymore so we are laid off,” J explained to the Social Worker, Iyun Rusmana, who accepted her in the Assessment room.

“We were also kicked out from our rented house, the company did not pay our salaries, so we don’t know where else to go. Especially now all transportation is closed, sir,” added E.

The Social Worker of the Tangerang City Social Service, Caryo, explained that the two women did not have a family and had no place to live in Tangerang City. Therefore, they really need temporary shelter services at Jakarta “Mulya Jaya” Center.

J and E will stay in the center temporarily for a maximum of three months before returning to their family. They will be provided basic necessities, mental spiritual activities, skill activities, and psychosocial support while in the center.
