BEKASI (May 1st, 2020) – “Pangudi Luhur” Social Rehabilitation Center for Ex-Homeless and Beggars in Bekasi responded to the Social Affairs Minister’s order in the COVID-19 pandemic to prepare shelters for about 3 months for homeless people and beggars as well as people who have difficulties getting food, is homeless, and loses their job. Currently, there are 7 homeless people and beggars referred by the Central Jakarta Social Service as service recipients who have occupied the temporary shelters that have been provided.
Kokom Komalawati, the Head of the Center, led the internal coordination via video conference which was attended by all employees. “The service provided to them include basic, health, and psychosocial needs. Each section carries out regular tasks, such as admission under the coordination of the Head of the Social Assessment and Advocacy Section,” she said.
Social workers, social counselors, and nurses provided psychosocial and health therapy services while adhering to health protocols. Checking body temperature and physical condition is carried out periodically to the service recipients. Education on maintaining social distancing and physical distancing continue to be delivered.
Ahmad Sahidin, the Head of Social Rehabilitation Service Section added that a temporary quarantine room is necessary for the service recipients when they come to the temporary shelter, either through referrals or by coming in person.
