JAKARTA (November 21, 2019) - The Director General of Social Rehabilitation of the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, Edi Suharto, gave direction and opened the Adoption Technical Work Meeting which was organized by the Directorate of Social Rehabilitation for Children. This activity is a form of the government's concern for Indonesian citizens so that their needs are properly met, physically, mentally, spiritually and socially. The current phenomenon is that many children are neglected because their parents are unable to care for and raise their children. They are forced to give their children to others, or even dumped anywhere.

"When a parent who finds an abandoned child then adopts him, then the religion of the child and the parent who finds it is not the same, it is not uncommon for the child's religion to follow the religion of the parent who found it. This is a problem for the child," said Edi Suharto. Responding to the phenomena and problems of these children, Edi Suharto directed that it is necessary to hold a technical meeting on adoption.

This adoption technical meeting is able to unify the perceptions of the procedure in adoption so that the purpose of adoption is in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations. In this activity, Edi Suharto gave directions to create a matrix containing technical recommendations for adoption, starting from the conditions to the appointment procedure. Apart from that, there is also a form of regulation of adoption without removing the lineage of the child itself, and of course there must also be monitoring and evaluation.

A total of 30 participants attended the activity which was held at Blue Sky Hotel Pandurata, Jakarta. Participants consisted of representatives from the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Religion, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the Indonesian National Police, the KPAI, Unicef, the Sayap Ibu Jakarta Foundation, District Courts, Religious Courts, and Depok City Dukcapil.
