JAKARTA (May 1st, 2020) – Director General of Social Rehabilitation (Dirjen Rehsos), Harry Hikmat and staff, visited Cengkareng Sports Hall (GOR) in West Jakarta, which is currently functioning as a temporary shelter for the neglected Social Welfare Services Recipient (PPKS) who were secured by the West Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This agenda is a series of visits to 5 shelters in DKI Jakarta area as a response to the instruction of the Minister of Social Affairs Juliari P. Batubara that “There must be preparation of temporary shelters for vulnerable groups”.

PPKS who were secured were 34 people consisting of homeless people, street children, silver men, and 1 ODMK (People with Psychological Problems), they were referred to Duren Sawit Psychiatric Hospital. Services are provided to them such as Rapid Test by the West Jakarta Health Office, assessment, population data identification, as well as fulfillment of basic needs such as boxed rice by the West Jakarta Social Service. PPKS who are secured are placed in a hall which has a capacity of approximately 40 people.

On this occasion, the Director General of Social Rehabilitation symbolically handed over Medical Equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Aid Package to the Cengkareng Sub-District Head, Ahmad Faqih. The aid consists of: 30 liters of disinfectant, 1 unit of disinfectant sprayer, 500 bottles (@250 ml) of hand wash, 40 boxes (@2,000 pcs of masks, 500 bottles (@500 ml) of hand sanitizer, 50 boxes (@2,500 pairs) of gloves, and 15 non-medical PPE for officers. This medical equipment is distributed gradually according to the needs at the location. With medical equipment and PPE for officers, it is hoped that it can minimize the spread of COVID-19 and protect officers and PPKS from the exposure to COVID-19.

Harry Hikmat urged all PPKS and officers to be mindful of maintaining personal hygiene and obeying the COVID-19 prevention protocol.”this is not a prison, but only a temporary shelter,” he stated. On the same occasion, Ahmad Faqih welcomed the assistance of medical equipment and expressed the local government’s gratitude to the Ministry of Social Affairs for their cooperation in efforts to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

PPKS who have a family are allowed to be picked up by bringing their Identity Card (KTP) and Family Card (KK) as proof and filling out the declaration form as family. The latest condition was recorded that our of 34 people (22 men and 12 women), PPKS who were secured, 12 people (8 men and 4 women) had been picked up by their families, the remaining 22 people (14 men and 8 women) were temporarily served in this temporary shelter.

The day before, the Director of Social Rehabilitation for Drug Abuse Victims (RSKP NAPZA), M. Nur Soleh, accompanied by several staff members, also visited Cengkareng Sports Hall to see the readiness of the place as a temporary shelter, identify, and record PPKS’ needs in efforts to prevent and handle COVID-19. The data obtained were reported to the leader, and today the Director General of Social Rehabilitation was directly visited.

Director General of Social Rehabilitation, Head of COVID-19 Task Force, Head of Program and Reports Division, Head of Public Relations of the Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation, representatives from the Directorate of RSKP NAPZA, Secretary for the Mayor of West Jakarta, and Head of West Jakarta Social Services also attended the observation.
