MERAUKE (December 13th 2019) - One of the key factors for the success of the Elderly Social Rehabilitation Program (Progres-LU) is the availability of the Elderly Social Welfare Institution (LKSLU) in every province and even district / city. Their existence is very strategic as partners in the implementation of Progres-LU which consists of Assistance for the Elderly (BANTU-LU), Family Support, Social Care, and Therapy.

Unfortunately, not all districts / cities have LKSLU. This obstacle is also experienced by the Social Rehabilitation Workshop for Elderly (LRSLU) "Minaula" Kendari as the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of the Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia with eight working areas covering Southeast Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Gorontalo, North Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku, West Papua and Papua. For example, in Papua Province there is only one LKSLU that is active in carrying out service activities for the elderly, namely the LKSLU “Mahkota Emas” in Jayapura City.

The lack of LKSLU was then addressed by LRSLU "Minaula" Kendari by actively socializing and advocating for the formation of LKSLU. The newest LKSLU to get advocacy is LKSLU "Lentera Kasih" located in Merauke Regency, Papua Province. The activity was carried out between LRSLU "Minaula" Kendari and the Merauke Regency Social Service on December 10th to 13th 2019.

In addition to actively advocating, LRSLU "Minaula" also intensively provides guidance to LKSLU so that it can continue to develop towards an increasingly professional and accredited social rehabilitation organization for the elderly.

On December 7th to 9th 2019 LRSLU "Minaula" Kendari invited 11 LKSLU in Southeast Sulawesi Province to get information related to the LKSLU accreditation mechanism and procedure. This activity presented three speakers each from the Directorate of Social Rehabilitation for the Elderly, the Institutional Accreditation Board for Social Welfare, and LRSLU Minaula Kendari. It is hoped that the LKSLU administrators will follow up on these activities to immediately apply for accreditation according to the applicable procedures.

Based on the results of Mapping and Advocacy by LRSLU "Minaula" Kendari as of December 13th, 2019, there were 58 LKSLUs in eight provincial areas with details of Southeast Sulawesi (20 LKSLU), Central Sulawesi (7 LKSLU), Gorontalo (4 LKSLU), North Sulawesi (14 LKSLU), Maluku (6 LKSLU), North Maluku (3 LKSLU), West Papua (2 LKSLU), and Papua (2 LKSLU). Out of a total of 58 LKSLUs in total, 15 LKSLUs are the result of advocacy by LRSLU “Minaula” Kendari spread over three areas, namely Southeast Sulawesi (11 LKSLU), West Papua (2 LKSLU), and Papua (2 LKSLU) provinces.
