Ministry of Social Affairs Strengthens Communication Between Stakeholders in Fulfilling the Rights of People with Disabilities

JAKARTA (28 November 2019) - In commemoration of International Disability Day (HDI) 2019, the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs. The Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation held a Dinner which is one of a series of HDI 2019 activities. This activity is designed as a means of strengthening communication between the Government, Companies, Media and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities in encouraging efforts to realize inclusive programs and activities including disability-friendly news in media.

In his remarks from the Minister of Social Affairs, represented by the Secretary General, Hartono Laras, the Minister of Social Affairs expressed his appreciation for all parties who have provided support and are always working together with the government to encourage efforts to realize respect, promotion, protection and fulfillment of the rights of persons with disabilities.

The SDG's 2016–2030 implementation agenda, which leads to the realization of an inclusive society with the slogan “No One Left Behind”, the Government of Indonesia together with all layers work together for the advancement of Indonesia by actively involving people with disabilities in all aspects of life.

Forums like this will be a very important medium in agreeing on the follow-up and implementation of Law Number 8 of 2016 which has been published through PP 52 of 2019 and PP 70 of 2019.

The number of participants at the dinner gathering was 200 people, consisting of representatives from related ministries / agencies, companies, NGOs, communities / organizations of persons with disabilities and the mass media.

This event was filled with talk shows regarding Government Regulation no. 52 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of Social Welfare for Persons with Disabilities and Government Regulation No. 70 concerning Planning, Implementation and Evaluation of the Respect, Protection and Fulfillment of Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Speakers at the Talk Show were the Director General of Social Rehabilitation, Edi Suharto, Deputy for Coordination of Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, Tb Achmad Choesni and Chairperson of PPDI, Gufroni Sakaril, moderated by Mr. Sunarman Sukanto, Deputy V of KSP Staff.
