The Current Condition of Tents and Lighting in Malunda Evacuees After the 2021 West Sulawesi Earthquake
MAJENE (January 14, 2022) - January 15, 2021, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 shook Mamuju Regency and Majene Regency, West Sulawesi Province. The epicenter of the earthquake, which was 6 kilometers northeast of Majene Regency at a depth of 10 kilometers, was felt as far as Mamuju, Makassar and Palu. As a result of the earthquake, a number of buildings in Mamuju City and Majene Regency were damaged, causing residents to be willing to lose their homes.
One year has passed, but residents from two hamlets, namely Hamlet Aholeang and Hamlet Rui, Mekkatta Village, Malunda District, Majene Regency, still have to survive in the oil palm plantation area of Mekkatta Village, which suddenly became a evacuation for residents.
The condition of the tents, which were built using tarpaulins and makeshift wooden boards, made the tents easily torn apart in the hot and rainy weather. Moreover, the threat of wind and falling coconut trees around the tent, as well as the lack of lighting. This worry often haunts residents at night.
