JAKARTA (March 30th 2020) - The Director General of Social Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Harry Hikmat held a meeting related to child protection efforts supported by Unicef ​​via video conference.

This meeting also discussed the Ministry of Social Affairs’ quick steps in preventing and handling the spread of Corona Virus Disease 19 (COVID-19). The Ministry of Social Affairs through the Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation continues to cooperation with the United Nations Children's Funds (Unicef) in 2020, namely in terms of Supplier Assistance in the form of Hand Sanitizers and Masks to eight provinces and eight Child Centers, as well as printing assistance for the socialization of COVID-19 prevention materials to all Social Welfare Institutions Children (LKSA) in Indonesia.


The Ministry of Social Affairs' Cooperation Program with Unicef ​​has been running from 2016 to 2020 which focuses on three things, namely regarding the survival and development of children, early childhood education and youth development and child protection.


In terms of Child Protection, this cooperation includes outreach of vulnerable children and families, digitizing case management and ensuring welfare and safety during disasters, especially the COVID-19 pandemic which has now spread in Indonesia.

 

Director General of Social Rehabilitation, Harry Hikmat stressed the importance of care in the family and the implementation of continuum of care. Child protection cannot be separated from human resources (HR). "Strengthening human resources is important, must have a strong database and the same format as Integrated Social Welfare Data (DTKS) plus special data related to children. The future requirements for human resources must be trained or licensed, and this is what is also being cooperated with Unicef," concluded the Director General of Social Rehabilitation.


Chief of Child Protection of Unicef ​​Indonesia, Amanda Bissex said that Unicef ​​appreciates the focus on strengthening human resources and the importance of cooperation in various units. He also said that Unicef ​​helps the family-based care model and ensures children get various additional services.


The meeting which was held through a Video Conference was attended by 36 participants consisting of the Director General of Social Rehabilitation, Harry Hikmat, Secretary of the Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation, Idit Supriadi Priatna, Director of Social Rehabilitation for Child, Kanya Eka Santi and his staff, UNICEF Indonesia's Chief of Child Protection, Amanda Bissex, Unicef ​​Indonesia's Child Protection Specialist, Astrid Gonzaga Dionisio and several representatives from Unicef ​​Indonesia.
