Working Meeting with Commission VIII the House of Representatives, Minister of Social Affairs Expects Optimization of Disaster Management

JAKARTA (March 16, 2021) - The Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini together with the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Doni Monardo, and a representative from the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia was present in-person to carry out a Joint Working Meeting with Commission VIII DPR-RI (House of Representatives). The meeting was held in the meeting room of the Commission VIII DPR RI on Tuesday, March 16, 2021.

The Minister of Social Affairs conveyed the existence of preparations made by the Ministry of Social Affairs in handling disaster management from pre to post-disaster. "Pre-Disaster includes the preparation of a social protection system. The emergency response includes activation of the emergency response system, providing psychosocial support, mobilizing Social Welfare human resources, and fulfilling basic needs. Post-disaster includes providing recovery assistance, Psychosocial Support Services (LDP), and conducting shelter referrals, schools, water sanitation, and employment," said the Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

Besides, on this occasion the Minister of Social Affairs for disaster management that occurs not only for natural disasters but also for social disasters is also our common task.

"It cannot be separated from the scope of social welfare as stated in Law Number 11 of 2011 on Social Welfare, which states that the implementation of social welfare is prioritized for those who have an unworthy life and have criteria for poverty and other social problems," said the Minister of Social Affairs.

The 2021 RKP (Government Working Plan) targets related to Social Disaster Management includes 200 groups in the number of community groups in disaster-prone locations who get terrorism group prevention, and 24,370 people to the number of community members in disaster-prone locations who get the fulfillment of social protection assistance for victims of social disasters.

Present at the meeting were the Chairmen and Members of Commission VIII, Director-General of Budget of the Ministry of Finance representing the Minister of Finance, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Hartono Laras, Inspector General of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Dadang Iskandar, Director General of Poverty Handling, Asep Sasa Purnama, Director General of Social Protection and Security, Pepen Nazarudin, Director General of Social Rehabilitation, Harry Hikmat, as well as the Head of Research and Education Board and Social Counseling, Syahabuddin, and the Senior Staff to the Minister of Social Affairs.
