GOWA (February 15th 2020) - Nurse from the Center for Elderly Social Rehabilitation (BRSLU) "Gau Mabaji" in Gowa conducts blood tests for the Government of Social Welfare Services (PPKS) in Hall. This activity is routinely carried out twice a month.
Routine checks are blood sugar, uric acid, and cholesterol checks. The purpose of this examination is to detect early disease in the elderly.
"The nurse checks at 7 AM in the morning and recommends that before being examined, the elderly should fast for 10 hours," said Ninik, one of the BRSLU "Gau Mabaji" nurses in Gowa. Fasting was carried out, to obtain accurate examination results, added Ninik.
In conducting medical check up is not uncommon nurses encounter difficulties. Some elderly have experienced fear of the actions taken. To address such problems, nurses overcome them through therapeutic communication.
Therapeutic communication is the ability or skill of nurses in helping elderly adapt to stress and overcome psychological disorders.
"Treatment for the elderly who are less cooperative when the treatment is done is to apply therapeutic communication, through a greeting and a light conversation can make the elderly understand the intent and purpose of the action", said Atika one of BRSLU nurses "Gau Mabaji" in Gowa.
Aside from being a preventive or preventative effort for the elderly, this activity is also one of the supervision and control of elderly conditions in Hall.
