BEKASI (April 5, 2020) - The Directorate of Social Rehabilitation for the Elderly provides basic food aid for the elderly. The aid is distributed through 114 Social Welfare Institutions for Elderly (LKS-LU) to 5,200 elderlies in Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) areas. The elderly receiving the aid is elderly living in poor families and is affected by the epidemic of COVID-19.

The distribution was carried out at the "Budhi Dharma" Elderly Social Rehabilitation Center (BRSLU) Bekasi. The basic food aid is one of the social safety nets for the elderly affected by Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19). This is in accordance with the direction of the Minister of Social Affairs concerning COVID-19 countermeasures for the People Who Need Social Welfare Services (PPKS).

This aims to help poor elderly people affected by the COVID-19 outbreak in the Greater Jakarta area fulfilling their basic need. The food aid includes side dish packages, children's food and instant food.

LKS-LU helps by picking up the groceries from the Natural Disaster Bufferstock Warehouse. The next day, groceries must be distributed to the elderly according to the proposals submitted by LKS-LU.

Given the Government's recommendations for social distancing, the distribution will be carried out by LKS-LU representative officers visiting the elderly residences.

Distribution of food aid is Ministry of Social Affair’s effort to be present for the community. The current emergency situation requires the government, in this case the Ministry of Social Affairs to be able to show Humanist, Adaptive, Dedicated, Inclusive and Responsive (HADIR) performance to reach the public through its policies and programs.
